The creator of a beloved cartoon character has passed away, leaving an artistic legacy that continues to inspire.
Celebrated Disney artist Tyrus Wong has died on Friday. According to his Facebook page, Wong died “peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving daughters Kim, Kay and Tai-Ling”. After his move to the US from China, Wong started working with Disney in 1938 and is now famously known for his exceptional work in Bambi.
“Tyrus had a gift for evoking incredible feeling in his art with simple, gestural composition,” said the Walt Disney Family Museum on an Instagram post. “Though Tyrus worked at The Walt Disney Studios for only three years – between 1938 and 1941 – his influence on Bambi cannot be overstated”.
Tyrus Wong was 106.
