Hermès Sterling Silver Mini Kelly Sold For $63,750

It’s usually Hermès’ Birkin bags that are in the news for breaking auction sales records, but this time the French maison’s other iconic bag the Kelly which has made it to the headlines. It was a Sterling Silver Mini Kelly Bag which sold for a staggering sum.

Hand-made of sterling silver, this Kelly was defenitly not bought off the shelf. Measuring 15cm features a removable Chaine D’Ancre shoulder strap is considered a masterpiece and being one of the top five most special handbags in the world.

The Hermès Sterling Silver Mini Kelly bag fetched a world record of HK$500,000 (57,500 euro -US$63,750 – £49,700) at a Spink auction in Hong Kong. Made of sterling silver, this Kelly was defenitly not bought off the shelf. It is likely extremely rare and features a single rolled top handle and a detachable Chaine D’Ancre shoulder strap and protective silver metal feet, secured with a branded sterling silver turn-lock closure on the front flap.

The bag became the spotlight in Spink’s first auction of luxury handbags and accessories. This is definitely not an everyday bag and was probably created for someone who truly loved a show stopping evening bag.

Hermès Kelly Millennium Moonlight

Even though this sterling silver creation won the spotlight at auction, it shared the auction block with more than 100 covetable bags including a Hermès Kelly Millennium Moonlight and a Birkin So Black, which was the second-highest lot, produced in 2010, it sold for a premium-inclusive HK$300,000 (34,500 euro – $38,465 – £27,200).

Hermès Birkin So Black

The April 18 sale comprised handbags from French Maison’s such as Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton and estimates ranged from HK$5000-500,000. The premium-inclusive auction total was HK$8.15m (937,000 euro – $1,045,000 – £742,676). – Buyer’s premium is 25%.

The deal marked a new chapter for the company in the lifestyle collectors market – it was the first live sale of handbags and accessories in Hong Kong. Founded in 1666 and headquartered in London, auction house Spink holds more than 70 auctions a year.
