Steve McQueen’s 1964 Rolex Submariner 5513 is going under the hammer

While not the most expensive Rolex to ever come up for auction, this 1964 Submariner 5513 has an unrivaled pedigree. The watch belonged to the legendary actor Steve McQueen.

When it comes to style icons, Steve McQueen is an example for many men. The actor was known for having a very strong preference for his style and that – regardless of the situation – could always be described as ‘cool’. Logically, the best man was soon nicknamed ‘The King of Cool’.

Unfortunately, the actor was not allowed to live a long life, he became only 50 years old due to illness. Yet his legacy lives on in his stylish appearance and the fact that there are several objects linked to him. Like for example this great beautiful vintage Rolex Submariner.

After wearing the watch for a long time himself, McQueen gave it as a gift to Loren Janes – a close friend of his and also a stuntman. The back of the watch still bears the following engraving: ‘To Loren, the best damn stuntman in the world. Steve’. This engraving is the only one of its kind; McQueen’s name has never appeared on any other watch. A special detail that makes the watch so cool.

In addition, the watch has the beloved features of a typical vintage Rolex, such as the ‘faded’ bezel. The watch has also received a new fitting restoration completed by Rolex. This happened after the watch was nearly destroyed by a freak fire in 2016.

The watch will be auctioned on October 25 by Philips in New York. The minimum amount for this special accessory is $300,000. For more information, come into the beautiful world Phillips.
