Chanel’s new holiday collection is inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite icon

Born a Leo on the 19th of August, 1883, Gabrielle Chanel adopted the image of the lion as her talisman. The lion symbol was also featured in her designs, and all her life she kept a lion statue next to her cigarettes and scissors.

In 2012, Maison Chanel launched the first jewelry collection ‘Sous Le Signe Du Lion’, inspired by the iconic fierce feline symbol. Last year we saw Sous Le Signe Du Lion Illuminating Powders, and this year, the king of the jungle returns in the gold-toned leonine face palette and an expertly curated selection of eyeshadows.

A lion’s strength suggests courage and flamboyance in the woman who wears its image or colours. With Maximalisme De Chanel, I wanted to create an exaggerated, glamorous attitude, a commitment to positivity – something to wear for more outgoing moments.

For this upcoming festive season, Chanel’s holiday lineup so collectible-worthy that it deserves a spot on your beauty shelf. If the glitzy glimmer of holiday palettes is what you are more excited for every holiday season, the Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel is one you shouldn’t miss out on.

Chanel Global Head of Makeup and Colour Design Lucia Pica wanted to incorporate one of Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite motifs, the lion icon, as the focus of this collection – while exploring a myriad of metallic textures in each product.

Expect sophistication in every way, from the sheerest pale gold highlighter to give a glamorous patina, to deep hues of copper and black-green that allow for a mesmerising look. The best part? All the Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel products are etched with the Chanel lion, while two exclusive products sport the iconic emblem on the surface.

Chanel Le Lion de Chanel Illuminating Powder

Embossed with a lion – the personal emblem of Gabrielle Chanel and the sign under which she was born – this golden holiday highlighter powder delivers a subtle shimmer to enhance the complexion for a fierce look.

One of the stars of this collection (I use that term loosely, because in my opinion everything here is simply stunning), this is an ivory-gold highlighter bearing an ultrafine complex shimmer, a semi-sheer texture, and a buildable finish. The soft, micro-fine formula dusts seamlessly onto skin for a smooth, radiant finish. The beautifully rendered lion on the powder’s surface is a raised detail and even though it will wear down with use, it’s still something to behold, wouldn’t you agree? The colour is actually an excellent balance of both warm & cool tones and thus wearable by a broad range of skin tones.

How to use:

Sweep Le Lion de Chanel Illuminating Powder into skin wherever you would like a luminous glow. Build coverage for a more intense highlighting effect. Apart from being used as a traditional highlighter, you can also wear it along eyes – just add a few coats of mascara for an elegant yet impactful look, or even dusted along collar bones if you’re feeling extra.

Chanel Ombre Première

Available in Electrum Lamé, Metallic & Vert Lamé, and bearing a mini lion head each that’s just as finely wrought as that of the highlighter, these are highly pigmented eye shadows in a lush metallic finish. The texture is almost creamy to the touch and a little goes a long way; start with a light amount and build up if need be. Easily blended out, you can also apply either with a dampened brush for mega intensity – just stick to one corner of the pan for that to keep the rest of the powder pristine. Wear time over primer is excellent, staying true until removed.

Wear alone or mix and match to create your own shades. For a custom colour look and a lasting, more intense result, layer over Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eyeshadow.

Chanel La Palette Caractère Lipstick Collection

Bearing some of Lucia Pica’s favourite shades, this palette has 5 lip hues in a range of finishes: sheer, satin & matte. Also including two mini dual-ended brushes that are not only travel-friendly, but work amazingly well, each colour is large enough to accommodate your finger for application. It should be noted that the second and third shades (from the left) have the highest colour payoff and will fade to a nice stain, while the first & fourth are much more emollient and semi-opaque. The last shade, regardless of how scary dark it may look in the pan, is actually the sheerest and has a balm-like feel upon the lips. Wear time will obviously depend on selected hue, along with whatever eating/drinking you plan on doing. Another perk is that you can even mix and match any of the colours to create a unique and customizable new shade.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet

The Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel includes a new intense matte lipstick, Rouge Allure Velvet, which debuts in the iconic red shade borrowing the name and the insignia of Chanel’s legendary fragrance – No.5. The shade is the exact one as Gabrielle Chanel would choose for herself, adorned with a captivating, limited-edition red and gold case this season. Can’t resist a head-turning red lip? This matte crimson shade is made for you.

Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss

Other standouts include the Rouge Coco Gloss in two glistening metallic shades. Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss is a moisturizing glossimer. Featuring a non-sticky, ultra-light formula leaves lips visibly smooth and plump, and perfectly brilliant. Enriched with Coconut Oil, Peptides and Vitamin E, along with an exclusive Hydraboost Complex, to offer hours of comfort and moisture.

Chanel Le Vernis

Nails are the ultimate extension of any beauty look and in a collection devoted to metallic textures, Le Vernis Longue Tenue is the final word. With Opulence, metallic meets a gold-green pink bronze, whereas the intense red shimmer of Flamboyance flags an early warning. Its strong crimson base burning through the oscillating sparkles suspended within each glossy coat. Scandalous, yes. Also utterly elegant.

From lion motifs to luminous metallics, Chanel’s Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel is a stunner in every way.

Chanel Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel is available at all Chanel fragrance & beauty boutiques and counters at all leading departmental stores, and selected stores worldwide. Come into the woderful world of Chanel.
