Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a treasured spirit from Scotland’s Speyside region, has partnered with Chrissa Amuah to create a brilliant light fixture for the Mortlach by Design program. Channeling the complex, multi-step distillation process that makes Mortlach unique, Amuah’s multifaceted light fixture shares the journey of Mortlach from its origin to the final product.
This bespoke piece is another pillar in the Mortlach by Design program, which has engaged some of the world’s best designers including Luca Nichetto, Sabine Marcelis, Felicia Ferrone, and Joe Doucet to create bespoke pieces, culminating in the ultimate whisky experience.
The light fixture is aptly named 2.81 after the number of times that Mortlach whisky is distilled – a unique process that has been passed down for generations. In 1897, when Dr. Alexander Cowie formulated this distillation process, he did so knowing that it was a different way of making whisky.
‘The Way’ is akin to having three distilleries at one still house; in parallel, the 2.81 light fixture is designed with many conceptual, physical and material layers, which when unified stand as a beautifully complex light fixture. 2.81 is formed by a variety of technologies, processes, textures and materials that when united create a constant and intricate lighting fixture, symbolic of each of the stages that create Mortlach whisky.
Creating 2.81 was a unique challenge as I aimed to balance the deep complexities and high caliber craftsmanship that defines the spirit.
Mortlach by Design celebrates the unique characteristics of Mortlach whisky and brings together some of the world’s best designers to create bespoke products for the ultimate whisky experience.

Hemingway Whiskey Company today announced the launch of Hemingway Rye Whiskey First Edition with the release of the inaugural 972 bottles. This initial offering is a blend of straight rye whiskeys finished in ultra-premium rum seasoned Oloroso Sherry casks. Inspired by American author, journalist, and storyteller Ernest Hemingway, it was crafted by the Calls, a family with Bardstown roots and more than 230 years of distilling experience.
Hemingway Rye Whiskey was founded by a team with deep experience in Kentucky whiskey. It is led by Steve Groth, whiskey pioneer and co-founder of the revered Angel’s Envy Bourbon brand. The Call family, Seventh-Generation Master Distiller Ron Call and his sons, Clayton Call and Eighth-Generation Master Distiller Jacob Call hand source, blend, and finish the rye whiskey, building on generations of distilling expertise and innovation.
The first offering is Hemingway Rye Whiskey First Edition, a captivating blend of 96% 9-year-old Indiana Straight Rye and 4% 4-year-old Kentucky Straight Rye, the latter distilled by Jacob Call and crafted with his signature spice. Both are finished with the sweetness and softness of Ron Call’s own rum-seasoned Oloroso Sherry casks. It is 100 proof and a dark amber color. It has a rich caramel and brown sugar aroma, complemented by back notes of soft rye and vanilla. On the palate, it has notes of rich cherry, toasted oak, creamy caramel, and cinnamon. A rich mouthfeel bursts with fruit flavor leading into a soft, sweet, and warm finish.
The First Edition release of Hemingway Rye debuts today in Collector’s Packaging. With only 972 bottles, it is ready to be welcomed by the most discerning whiskey drinkers and worthy destinations. The bottles are hand-numbered and hand-signed by the Calls; each will come encased in a beautifully textured library-style box, which includes a gold foiled Hemingway signature, ‘First Edition’ inscription, and a satin pull ribbon. Each First Edition bottle also features a unique, removable card on the back, inspired by old-fashioned library book cards, inviting imbibers to pour their own stories and log who they share their rye with.
“As an eighth-generation distiller and Kentuckian, I’ve had the chance to work with a variety of whiskey brands throughout my distilling career but having the chance to work with my father and brother on our Hemingway Rye Whiskey has been a dream come true”, said Jacob Call. “Together, we have poured our hearts into this first edition blend, and we’re proud to share it”.
The new Hemingway Rye Whiskey brand is inspired by rich storytelling and the lessons and traditions passed down from generation to generation. Ernest Hemingway lived a life full of tales worth telling and the same is true for the Calls. Growing up in Kentucky, the Call family shares a similar passion for storytelling and tradition. Ron, Jacob, and Clayton make it a priority to sit down together while enjoying the fruits of their labor to share stories and lessons learned. Hemingway in his own right, loved his whiskey. He didn’t drink while he wrote, he drank after the writing was done for the day. He said it helped him, “change his ideas”. Indeed, he wrote, “When you work hard all day with your head and you must work again the next day, what else can change your ideas and make them run on a different plane like whiskey?”
“With Hemingway as inspiration, the Call family has authored a new whiskey masterpiece”, said Steve Groth, Founder of Hemingway Rye. “It’s an honor to have the Call family and their centuries of whiskey making experience as part of this new offering. With a focus on quality and innovation, the legacy team we have in place has crafted this premium rye whiskey with passion and we can’t wait to get it in the hands of rye whiskey lovers everywhere”.
Availability and Pricing: Hemingway Rye Whiskey First Edition will be available for pre-purchase online only at a suggested retail price of $149.99 for a 750ml signed Collector’s Bottle, shipping to most states. Rye lovers and holiday gift givers should move quickly to secure one of the 972 First Edition bottles, expected to ship in early December.

In the spirit of the Season of Change, Nosotros Tequila and Mezcal releases its Cider Añejo, the first-ever tequila aged in wet cider barrels, just a few months after launching its Madera line. This limited release was created in collaboration with 2 Towns Ciderhouse.
2 Towns Ciderhouse used former Woodford Reserve Whiskey barrels to create their ‘Bad Apple’ cider batch. These barrels were then moved to Mexico by Nosotros for the first step in aging this cider añejo. Nosotros Blanco was aged for 20 months using a single barrel aging process, to create the first-ever tequila aged in wet cider barrels.
Nosotros describes this añejo as “Rich and smooth, with a candied complexion, featuring a one-of-a-kind tasting profile and production process. The experience of this añejo is a unique blend of cooked agave and warm apple, along with spicy sandalwood and nutty almond scents”.
“My cousin is the Head Cidermaker at 2 Towns Ciderhouse, which sparked this idea,” shared Michael Arbanas, Nosotros Co-Founder. “When developing our Madera Collection, it is important for us to maintain Nosotros’ additive free process while creating unique products, and this was the perfect way to do something that has never been done in our category”, continued Carlos Soto, Nosotros Founder and CEO. “We are excited that that we now get to share this perfect Autumn spirit”, finished Arbanas.
“It is so cool to be working with Nosotros on the cutting edge of innovation” said David Takush, Head Cidermaker for 2 Towns Ciderhouse in Oregon. “Their creativity and dedication to excellence really shines through in this collaboration. I was truly amazed at my first taste of this añejo out of the barrel”.
With only 1,500 individually numbered bottles, do not miss out on this once in a lifetime product, sold on the Nosotros website and in a limited number of partners in our distribution markets.
Founded in 2017, Nosotros became the winner of the San Francisco World Spirit Competition, claiming the ‘World’s Best Tasting Tequila’ title a few months after joining the marketplace with Nosotros Blanco. Since then, Nosotros has launched Nosotros Reposado, Nosotros Mezcal (Espadín y Tobalá), and its Nosotros Madera Collection. George Garvin Brown was the first to seal his whisky, Old Forester, in a glass bottle in 1870. To commemorate his birthday, the First Bottled Bourbon annually releases a limited edition, vintage-dated expression: Birthday Bourbon. Hand selected by Master Distiller Chris Morris, this small batch bourbon offers a unique character and flavor profile that will never be replicated.
The September 2nd release marks the 22nd limited edition expression, but this year’s celebration will look different than years past. For the first time, Old Forester’s Birthday Bourbon will be available to purchase through a sweepstakes running from August 24, 2022 through August 31, 2022. This gives people nationwide the opportunity to win the right to purchase the most coveted expression of Old Forester.
Old Forester is Brown-Forman’s founding brand, founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown. Brown believed Old Forester was so pure and consistent that he sealed it, signed it, and pledged, “There is nothing better in the market”.
“Birthday Bourbon holds a special place among Old Forester’s limited-releases, celebrating the legacy of the Brown family”, Morris said. “We’re excited to open up the opportunity for bourbon lovers all over the country to get their hands on this beloved bourbon”.

Because of the new policy, no Birthday Bourbon bottles will be sold at the distillery on September 2. Prize winners will be notified via e-mail on September 2, 2022. The suggested retail price is $149.99.

In September 2022, Michter’s Distillery will release its US*1 Toasted Barrel Sour Mash Whiskey for sale to U.S. and export markets. This whiskey was released once before in 2019.
“At Michter’s we’re proud of the great work done by our production team to create our Toasted program”, commented Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco. “We are always trying new things as we endeavor to make highest quality whiskeys, and with the 2014 release of our US*1 Toasted Barrel Bourbon we became the first company to offer a toasted barrel American whiskey. It’s great to see how this new category has taken off over the past 8 years”.
To make this special Toasted release, Michter’s starts with fully matured barrels of its US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey. “The heart of this toasted product is a wonderful whiskey that begins on the palate like a sweet and delicious bourbon and then has a rye-like spice on the finish,” said Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee. Michter’s US*1 Sour Mash is then transferred into specially toasted barrels for additional aging. The precise toast profile of the second barrel is artfully selected by Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. About her toast selection, Wilson observed, “The 2022 Toasted Sour Mash release takes the Sour Mash expression and enhances it by adding notes of smoked honey and gingersnap cookies accentuated by toasted oak, all while honoring the sweet and spicy balance of our US*1 Sour Mash. Working on the Toasted series really brings forward the influence of the barrel and represents the dedication of the Michter’s team to continuously provide exceptional whiskey”.
When Michter’s US*1 Sour Mash, the base of this Toasted release, was selected by The Whisky Exchange as ‘Whisky of the Year’ for 2019, it marked the first time that any whiskey from the United States had ever achieved this honor. Michter’s US*1 Toasted Barrel Sour Mash Whiskey is 86 proof and will sell in the U.S. for a suggested retail price of $100 per 750ml bottle.
Beyond its main distillery in the Shively section of Louisville, Michter’s operations extend to two other sites in Kentucky. In Springfield, Michter’s is farming estate grown grain on its 205-acre property, while in downtown Louisville, Michter’s has its second distillery in the historic Fort Nelson Building. Situated in a prime location on West Main Street opposite Louisville Slugger and on the same block as the Frazier Museum, Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery features the legendary pot still system from Michter’s Pennsylvania. It also has educational tours with whiskey tastings and The Bar at Fort Nelson, which features classic cocktails curated by spirits and cocktail historian David Wondrich.
Michter’s makes highly acclaimed, limited production whiskeys that are subject to allocation because demand has exceeded supply. Michter’s is renowned for its small batch bourbon, single barrel bourbon, single barrel rye, small batch American whiskey, and small batch sour mash whiskey.
In October 2021, Michter’s was named the Most Admired American Whiskey in a survey conducted in 25 countries. In January 2022, Michter’s was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International in their Annual Brands Report.

The South of France has never been so full of surprise and inspiration. Creating a new effervescent wine with a maverick blend, French Maison Chandon celebrates the diversity of its terroirs in a unique sparkling rosé wine for a distinctively vibrant and aromatic tasting experience.
The latest drop from Maison Chandon springs from a vision of a place reputed for its incredibly fertile land and synonymous with blending, both a geographic location and the embodiment of inspiring smells, colors and tastes. In the South of France, Chandon winemakers explore a world of possibilities, opening a new chapter in the House’s globetrotting wine adventures.
Chant Des Cigales is a rule-breaking meeting between pioneering winemakers and a place defined by a melting pot of innovative energy, co-created by a trio of winemakers and chefs de cave who combine their exceptional savoir-faire:
Audrey Bourgeois, the resident wizard and Chandon’s head of winemaking innovation and technical coordination across the six international Chandon Maisons;
Richard Geoffroy, the visionary who began his career as winemaker at Chandon in the mid-eighties before becoming the legendary chef de cave at Dom Pérignon;
Eric Lebel, a master of precision and chef de cave at Maison Krug for 22 years.
All three shared a desire to work with signature grape varieties of the South of France, moving away from the confines of where the grapes were harvested. Creating a Vin d’Auteurs rather than a wine from a single terroir, they have crafted a unique blend that expresses the richly diverse character of the South of France. The breakout style of this contemporary sparkling rosé is about inclusivity, rather than exclusivity. The wine is frémissant, with a subtle effervescence and a captivating aromatic complexity. It is a Brut Nature that is both organic and vegan, a first for Chandon.
Noted for still more than sparkling wines, the South of France tends to propose wines made from just three or four grape varieties. Right from the outset, Chandon’s trio imagined a sparkling wine that would depart from usual practices and upend traditions. Their idea was a precise blend of eight different grape varieties harvested across a wide swath, stretching from Perpignan to Saint-Tropez. With this groundbreaking approach, the innovative assemblage of Chant des Cigales brings together grenache, cinsault, syrah, rolle, cabernet sauvignon, mourvèdre, carignan and tibouren.
By drawing on a vast array of emblematic grape varieties from the South of France, the winemakers have tapped into the region’s rich natural wealth. Chant des Cigales captures the diversity of the South while trailblazing new paths to rediscover the region.
Since its founding in the foothills of the Argentine Andes in 1959, Chandon has been defined by sharing and passing on savoir-faire, drawing inspiration from the diversity of its people to make exceptional sparkling wines. For Chant des Cigales, the House has partnered with cooperatives and producers reputed for their organic vineyards, where the trio has sourced the best grape varieties, all organically grown. The creators also worked with the growers to choose the best technique to make the wine, looking at both traditional and innovative methods. Audrey, Richard and Eric are all in complete agreement that the Charmat method had to be used in order to preserve the wine’s primary fruity character and freshness.
Over more than two years, they blended and tasted hundreds of compositions until they had the perfect balance. They made bold choices, such as adding grape must to start the second fermentation, or fermenting the wine in pressure tanks at up to 4 bars, giving Chant des Cigales its characteristic subtle yet persistent effervescence. Their over-arching obsession remained crafting a unique Brut Nature sparkling wine that reveals the full complexity and diversity of the fresh fruit aromas, without any addition of sugar in the final stage.
Chant des Cigales has a vivid yet delicate composition, served along or with a single ice cube that revives the effervescence. The flavors shift, releasing a bracing minerality. The intriguing character and aromatic complexity of Chant des Cigales make for perfect pairing with an enticing variety of dishes.
Chant des Cigales is above all a new taste experience, a rosé frémissant brut nature, organic and vegan, that displays natural elegance, plenty of fresh fruit, an intriguing floral character, salinity, a slight tonic bitterness, and a delicate, inviting bubble we call frémissant for its subtle effervescence.
With Chant des Cigales, Chandon celebrates a community of winemakers united by curiosity and commitment, by an indefatigable desire to push the limits of savoir-faire while remaining faithful to the Maison’s mission since 1959 of innovating with bubbly wines.
