My Blend with Clarins

Le-Royal-Monceau-Raffles-Paris-Outside-2From Paris with Love: Le Royal Monceau-Raffles

When it comes to elite beauty products and treatments there is a brand that always pops up as a symbol of quality: Clarins. I was working ten years for this amazing brand, it’s a love that never will fade away.

We don’t promise you miracles, we promise results

Jacques Courtin-Clarins

The French brand (distributed in 150 countries around the world), has built a reputation along the years not only by doing innovative R&D and being at the forefront, but also by interacting closely with all those women that have trusted Clarins since the beginning. This synergic collaboration has proven to be correct: by listening to women’s needs, Clarins has enriched their lives and developed one of the most successful and admired company.

Nowadays Clarins has grown into a multinational company whose motto “With Clarins, life is more beautiful” gives us the essence of what actually this company is. It was founded in 1954 by Jacques Courtin-Clarins who had a holistic vision for the business of beauty. Along 60 years, the so many products and treatments have crystallized in a new adventure for the brand: the Spa My Blend.

These spa’s are exclusive not because there are few of them in the world but because of their dedicated, tailored treatments and products only found in these luxurious yet calm and relaxing temples of beauty and well being. In Paris, where the firm was born, there are a couple: one in the recently opened Molitor, and the other one, designed by Philippe Starck, is located in the Royal Monceau-Raffles, a ‘total Starck’ facility where even the glasses have the sign of the most prolific French designer ever.

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 8

Mr. Starck had in mind a place with no gravity, a site where one can wander into the lightness in order to purify oneself upon achieving the spa experience. This white paradise was born over a surface of 1,500 m², a realm of white walls, a lot of (my favorite) Venetian mirrors, veils and stainless steel structures whose purpose is no other but relaxation. The complex has a pristine pool of 23 m –the longest of any Parisian palace–, a Watsu pool, a lounge with cozy coaches, a detoxy bar with seasonal products and a lot of charm. There is a humid area, one for men and one for women, comprising a hamman, sauna, laconium and a surprising sensorial shower where you can bath emulating a tropical storm, for instance.

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 5a

If you should judge a hotel by its spa, then the Royal Monceau-Raffles in Paris deserves its five stars, and its recently acquired Palace rating (only six other Paris hotels have the highly-coveted badge of distinction).

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles

Featuring the longest pool in a Paris luxury hotel, the spa at Le Royal Monceau is run by My Blend by Clarins. It also includes a Jacuzzi, hammam, laconium room and sauna over an impressive 1,500 square meter space, all decorated in the purest white from floor to ceilings…  A real haven of relaxation and well-being, where dedicated fitness coaches make sure your personal needs are addressed.

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 9

Through the looking glass, paraphrasing Lewis Carroll, would be a suitable analogy to describe Spa My Blend at Royal Monceau-Raffles. Specially while in the pool whose middle part has a transparent ceiling ruffled by water, or while in the dressing room whose lockers are made of mirrors replicating ad infinitum any image. For those wanting to exercise the body, there is also a rather well furnished high-tech fitness area, a pilates studio and a series of individual coaching rooms.

Now, in any spa a key feature is the proposed treatments. And here is the reason why the Royal Monceau-Raffles chose Clarins to run its outstanding spa. The vision of Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins, son of the founder, was that every skin is different, like every genetic code is; so, treatments ought to respond to every skin needs according to age and lifestyle. The line My Blend created by Dr. Courtin-Clarins has over 100 mixtures and 400 night/day personalized combinations created by a Beauty Therapist in situ. At the core of My Blend products there is the so called Cell Synergy anti–ageing complex, a blend of 3 unique peptides that facilitate skin inter–cellular communication, enhance its natural defense and convey skin regeneration.

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 5

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 8x

To tune up the right skin approach Clarins has developed My Skin Diag, a Clarins’ software to determine your skin’s biological age, algorithm combined with information such as lifestyle and habits, helps the Beauty Therapist to create the most precise blend for the client. Another privilege of the Spa My Blend is the technique for the treatment.

It ensures the facial that ensues is personally tailored to your needs: the ritual includes a gentle cleaning, deep exfoliating, two masks (mine were a clarifying mask followed by a hydrating one), targeted face and eye creams application. Since my main concern was the eye area, my therapist insisted on that zone with  cryo-aesthetic, a healing technique that uses the benefits of cold to relieve congestion and enable the microcirculation.

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 7

All Clarins classics are availble at theSpa My Blend

The methods are 100% manual, with precise, ancient movements that are appropriate so the skin can better absorb the products applied on it. Including three steps, its aim is to relax, revitalize and regenerate the body. This protocol can last either 90 or 60 minutes, though there are also programmes lasting from 2 to 4 hours that incorporate several treatments. It is worth to mention that among the formulas used there are unexpected substances as the (Clarins famous) blue orchid essence dispersed in oil, celosia extract and even cherry tree leaves extract.

Spa My blend by Clarins - Royal Monceau-Raffles 6a

My Blend uses an in-depth diagnosis based on a questionnaire on your skin and lifestyle to give a personalized recommendation, blending an essential day and night Formula (may your skin be oily, dry and dehydrated, more mature, etc); a Booster (pure active ingredient concentrates) to be added to the essential Formula to answer immediate and urgent beauty needs; and a line of complementary skin care products to enhance the benefits of each Essential Formula and Booster.

Virtuoso, the leading international luxury travel agency network, voted the Spa My Blend at Royal Monceau-Raffles as Best Spa in 2012 in the ‘Best of the Best‘ Awards. The jury justified its choice by quoting that “the hotel spa offers the most alluring environment for rest and rejuvenation, creative and therapeutic treatments, and highly skilled and knowledgeable therapists”. By visiting the place one can feels that in three years since this verdict was issued, the Spa My Blend has maintained the standards by which it was elected ‘Best City Spa 2015′ in Europe by SENSES.

Luxury is all about personalization. And at the Royal Monceau-Raffles Spa, My Blend by Clarins takes personalization to a new level, bringing a revolutionary concept to the customers. Created by the son of the founder of the world-famous French luxury skincare brand Clarins, My Blend by Clarins offers a unique line of products that can be customized and designed for everyone’s specific skin-care needs.

This great Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is located in the famous building of the previous Sweelinck conservatorium. It’s building was originally constructed in tate 19th-century.

Located deep in the heart of Amsterdam’s museum district, the musical past of the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam is still audible, and visible. First designed by revered Dutch architect Daniel Knuttel at the turn of the 19th-century, the Conservatorium’s well-known structure housed a major bank for 77 years before becoming the city’s premier music conservatory from 1983 to 2003.Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam

Intrigued by its architecture and history, Milan-based star architect Piero Lissoni created a hybrid of modern heritage for the hotel, boasting an intriguing contrast of Neo-Gothic Dutch architecture and Italian design. The original lofty ceilings have been left intact in almost half of the 129 rooms, and transformed into stunning duplexes with large windows and exposed structural beams. A particularly spectacular element is the courtyard covered entirely in glass, creating a wonderful contrast between the old and the new, the classic and the modern.

Hotel d’Angleterre’s Royal Suite, Copenhagen

Renowned luxury publication Robb Report has curated a list of the most luxurious suites in Europe alone. These fabulous living arrangements have the best interiors, views or amenities or a perfect mix of all. They also come at a heavy price though almost everything with that standard of extravagance does. Also the Hotel d’Angleterre’s Royal Suite is on their list.

Established in 1755, the d’Angleterre is an icon and a historic landmark in Copenhagen, celebrated for its elegance, luxury and style. Inspired by its rich heritage the hotel has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and has reopened as a revitalized grand palace. Balancing legacy and style with intuitive and tailored services, the d’Angleterre will complement the desires of today’s refined travelers.

The d’Angleterre is the result of a love affair between two young people. In the middle of the 1700’s Jean Marchal, a servant in the royal court, and Maria Coppy, daughter to the royal chef, fell in love. Maria was known for her cooking talent and Jean knew everything about serving the privileged. Together Mr. and Mrs. Marchal established a restaurant on Kongens Nytorv in 1755. This is where the d’Angleterre story begins.

The founder, Jean Marchal and his successors’ talent and sense for providing exceptional service, hospitality and comfort has carried the identity of the d’Angleterre throughout more than 250 years. This tradition is the foundation of the d’Angleterre legacy.

Today, the owners and every member of staff affectionately carry on the tradition of passion for service that has earned the hotel its 5-star deluxe rating.

Hotel d’Angleterre’s Royal Suite, Copenhagen, Denmark (Click photo to enlarge).

The 260-year old suite holds a lot of history through the years and a lot of it remains the same as it was when it first opened. Grand chandeliers hang from the cherub decorated ceilings and antique furniture, including a WWII desk used by German occupiers, decorates the room. Local Danish Bang & Olufsen electronics give the suite an elegant balance of old and new. The room has an attached private balcony from where guests can view the Kongens Nytorv or The King’s Square, the Nyhavn Canal, the Royal Theatre and the pedestrian shopping street Strøget, which are all also walking distance from the hotel.

Sevilla, Palacio de Villapanés

We visited Sevilla… Three days to re-discover the timeless, enchanting, magnificent wonder that is Sevilla!! We chose not to go in the “crazy” days of ‘Semana Santa’, when the city just bursts with people from all over the world. We wanted to experience a more tranquil Sevilla, as beautiful if not more, as ever!! I’m posting and sharing images we loved!! Hope you enjoy them as well!!

Sevilla, Palacio de Villapanés, Alma Hotel

Palacio de Villapanés, Alma Hotel (Click photo to enlarge).

The street is quiet, and unassuming, so it’s a surprise to find such a grandiose entrance….. We arrived in Sevilla two hours later and went straight to the beautiful Alma Hotel Sevilla. Originally built as a private mansion for the Marques of Villapanes in the 18th century, the property has been restored into a modern boutique hotel with 50 guest rooms. Palacio de Villapanés…

Palacio de Villapanés, marble hotel entrance, The restoration of this majestic building is, without doubt, superb. The potential pitfalls have been masterfully sidestepped offering up a seamless blend of the modern and the antique

(Click photo’s to enlarge).

Our home for three days in Sevilla!! What a wonder!! What a majestic, elegant, beauty of a place!! We made the right choice in booking this 18th century palace, remodeled, but with all Sevilla’s charm as we imagined it to be originally… Originally built as a private mansion for the Marques of Villapanés in the 18th century, it is now (my home) a luxury hotel. A set of rose-colored marble steps lead to the stunning arched entrance, with a surround of elaborately filigreed ironwork.

There’s no question that upon arriving at Hotel Palacio de Villapanes you feel a sense of awe and smugness in equal measure. Awe at the magnificent wrought-iron archway through which you get your first glimpse of the splendid interior within. Smugness in the knowledge that you are one of a privileged few who can step in from the cobbled street and have this be your home (for a few days at least).

Sevilla, Palacio de Villapanés, Alma Hotel

The palace is built around a light-filled, marble-floored, balconied courtyard…. The archways led into a beautiful open air courtyard with black and white marble floors (check out the awesome chevron pattern on the top floor) , a soothing fountain and lush greenery. High, high ceilings… lovely original woodwork!! Every corner a new discovery!!

The hotel’s restaurant had an eclectic and unexpected asthetic. Black walls, Wrought iron chairs, brocade upholstered banquets and simple white cloth place settings adorned with colorful bud vase. Beyond the restaurant was a cozy library featuring backlit Moroccan style tiles and modern leather seating

(Click photo’s to enlarge).

Sevilla, Palacio de Villapanés, Alma Hotel

My room was reached by walking through another interior courtyard, filled with fragrant orange trees… You can’t think of a Sevilla palace without a beautiful interior courtyard.. or two, or three.. just can’t!!! (Soooo lovely by night as well!!) Love the mix of traditional and modern (design) ….

(Click photo to enlarge).

Sevilla, Palacio de Villapanés, Alma Hotel

The facilities include the cellar breakfast room, gym and spa, roof terrace, restaurant and courtyard bar. It was here that we would catch our first scent of orange blossom, the most delightful surprise of all, and one that will forever remind me of this days in Sevilla.

Sevilla, Palacio de Villapanés, Alma Hotel

And finally, our room! The crisp white duvets (his and hers why not his and his?? lol) and moody purple velvet wingback bed was exactly what I needed after a long day of traveling and the Spanish heat. The deep purple and gray color scheme was both rich and soothing, and the clean, dark furniture was a great contrast to the gossimar curtains where sunlight streamed through until 11pm!

I loved this room with its beautiful fresh red roses that smelled!! And the ultimate breakfast in bed! Pure Bliss! One of the most delightful parts of my room was the mini bar, stocked with free delicious, mini Spanish juices! I had my fair share of tomato, pineapple and apple each day of our stay

Known for its warm and friendly atmosphere full of zest for life, this is and was the place to see and be seen on the Croisette. Inspired by the Art Deco style of the landmark and the colors of the Côte d’Azur, interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon breathes new life into this Green Globe-certified luxury hotel in Cannes.

The status of an iconic hotel is measured too by its ability to develop products that reflect its identity. Which is exactly what the 5-star Cannes hotel has achieved with its recently launched 73 La Croisette brand of hospitality products – bath cream, shower gel, shampoo and hair conditioner – whose fragrance is the work of perfume creator Isabelle Burdel. The collection is completed by fashion accessories, ties and scarves, manufactured by an Italian firm reputed for its exclusive knowhow.

Louis Vuitton x BMW i8

French Maison Louis Vuitton, pioneer in the art of travel, has partnered with BMW i to create a tailor-made set of luggage crafted in carbon fibre for BMW i8.

Launching at the New Bond Street store, Louis Vuitton has partnered with BMW to create an ergonomically designed luggage collection to fit with the cars design. When it comes to fashion and cars, Not that I have an i8, but I couldn’t be happier, particularly when it is two brands I am very passionate about, also when Vuitton is the pioneer of the art of travel, and BMW dedicated to the excellence of both its comfort and style. The stunning Damier pattern has been used for this carbon fibre collection but whilst the innovation of the two weekender bags, garment bag and business case is a first for the house, they have not compromised on their heritage of craftsmanship.

Crafted in carbon fiber. The Weekender GM i8, large and soft travel bag, designed to be handheld or carried on the shoulder, is a perfect fit for the boot of the BMW i8’. With a Louis Vuitton logo laser engraved onto the Damier fabric, it reinterprets one of the house’s iconic shapes.

Whilst retaining soft, the leather detailing and exceptionally sleek body of the pieces have also been designed to rest on top of each other, as well as within particular spaces in the BMW’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle. For example, The Garment Bag i8 sits perfectly on the parcel shelf, whilst the bigger The Weekender GM i8 fits seamlessly in the boot. With each piece incredibly light, the charcoal grey fabric with microfiber perforated lining has a slight tinge of electric blue on its body that will subtly match in with the car. Whilst I can not attend tonight’s launch, I will be taking a look in store very soon to experience this feat of engineering and craftsmanship.

Crafted in carbon fiber. The Weekender PM i8 is designed to lie snugly on the flat surface of the business case on the back seat of the BMW i8. Like the other pieces of the set, it features a specially designed handle, a natural leather address tag and the famous Louis Vuitton padlock that has become one of the Maison’s best known emblems.

The set of exclusive suitcases and bags have been carefully designed to follow the sleek lines of the most progressive sports car: the BMW i8. Each piece calls on Louis Vuitton’s heritage of craftsmanship and innovation, bringing together leading edge design and materials with exacting, careful construction.

Soft, flexible bags and semi-rigid thermoformed cases have been cleverly calibrated, down to the last millimetre. They stack and fit together in an ingenious way in order to allow the driver to carry their most treasured possessions in style and security, without compromising the comfort and elegance of luxury travel.
