Bugatti Teases New ‘Icon’ Ahead of Monterey Car Week

Monterey Car Week is upon us, and we already have a surprise announcement from Bugatti. The French brand took to social media Monday morning with a simple-yet-tantalizing teaser video promising to ‘unlock an icon’ on Friday at The Quail.

As all 500 Bugatti Chirons an 40 Bolides sold out at the beginning of this year, the high-performance automaker now teases a radically different hypercar in a short video clip captioned ‘unlock an icon’. The announcement comes as Aston Martin recently revealed its all-new DBR22 Speedster and Bentley looks to offer a first look at its limited-run Mulliner Batur this weekend.

Take a look for the new Bugatti model to arrive on August 19 at the Quail.

The teaser video doesn’t shed much light on the mystery, though the four horizontally dashed headlights and surrounding lines deviate significantly from the Chiron, suggesting something new altogether. While vaguely resembling more of the Divo, it’s still unclear whether the supercar will be a special edition model, concept, or other. Bugatti recently merged with EV company Rimac Automobili in late 2021 for Bugatti Rimac, so their first jointly developed project could potentially be arriving soon.

Encapsulating History and Innovation: The Jean Bugatti Timepiece

One of the most complex and innovative chronographs ever created, befitting the Bugatti legacy: the Jacob & Co. x Jean Bugatti timepiece.

The Jean Bugatti timepiece is perhaps the most demanding watchmaking project ever undertaken by Jacob & Co, named after a visionary pioneer. Jean was the eldest son of company founder Ettore Bugatti, born in 1909 – the same year Ettore set up his new company in Molsheim, Alsace.

As a child, Jean loved to watch Bugatti’s craftsmen passionately designing and building cars – every single component a work of art. Later, Jean would visit his grandfather, Carlo, in Paris, as often as he could, where he was inspired by his furniture creations that mixed styles, cultures and materials.

Jean would one day lead Bugatti, designing such masterpieces as the duotone Type 50 series, the Type 41 Royale with the longest wheelbase ever created, and the Type 57SC Atlantic. Its signature design feature was its raised seam running vertically from the hinge in the split bonnet to the tail – proportions unknown in the automotive world at the time.

Limited to just 57 units, the Jean Bugatti timepiece is a tribute to this extraordinary innovator, representing his avant-garde and artistic automotive interpretations. Just as Jean Bugatti’s automotive designs defied established trends, so does this eponymous timepiece. It is one of the most sophisticated timepieces to be released in recent years and enters a territory that Jacob & Co. has never explored. The Jean Bugatti may just be Jacob & Co.’s most demanding watchmaking project ever.

The development and manufacturing of the Jean Bugatti presented a series of intense challenges. Made of a total of 470 components, the delicate, wafer-thin design of many parts is extraordinary, considering the immense pressures and forces they are subjected to. The management of forces and energy within the movement is highly complex, and immediately apparent when the caseback is revealed. The movement’s architecture is three-dimensional and a sight to behold in and of itself.

It has a round case, a round bezel, short and elaborate lugs, mushroom pushers, a full-polished rose gold, or white gold case. With its elegant cursive numerals, blued hands, blue or cream-white dial, the 46-mm Jean Bugatti would almost look tame if it weren’t for its unique layout.

The two openings on the dial harbor a pair of one-minute flying tourbillons. Their cage design is topped by the iconic Bugatti ‘EB’ logo, manufactured in polished steel. The Jean Bugatti tells the hours and minutes thanks to a pair of red, inward-pointing hands located on the dial’s rim. The pair of short, blued hands anchored in the middle of the dial are the chronograph hands.

Capturing Jean Bugatti’s style and creative flair within a single timepiece is a challenging task, yet Jacob & Co. is the perfect brand partner to achieve this. Jean’s spirit remains strong within the walls of Molsheim, as our designers and engineers continue to draw inspiration from his near century-old creations. With this latest timepiece, wearers can enjoy an entirely new standard of sophistication and meticulous attention to detail – the very same step-change Bugatti makes with each of its new hyper sports cars.

Wiebke Ståhl, Managing Director of Bugatti International

The first, longer one stands for the chronograph’s seconds units. The shorter denotes the chronograph’s tens of seconds. When each one of those reaches the end of its course, it jumps backward, thus defining a double retrograde chronograph. The chronograph is powered and regulated autonomously with a separate barrel and a high-frequency regulating organ.

Benjamin Arabov, CEO of Jacob & Co., added: “Designing and developing the Jean Bugatti has been an exciting and rewarding experience. Our partnership with Bugatti is taking on this new shape, and even though it feels comfortably classic, the watch is really something else. This timepiece is a new design direction compared to our existing collections, but it goes to show that great figures make for great inspiration”.

Applying these historic design elements, coming from Bugatti’s glorious past, is a fascinating supplement to the contemporary hypercar inspiration. And we rose to the challenge with a groundbreaking movement that redefines how a chronograph operates. This is the way Jacob & Co. defies and exceeds expectations. Come into the beautiful worlds of Jacob & Co and Bugatti.

Champagne Carbon launched a bespoke bottle for Bugatti’s 110th Birthday

Exclusive champagne brand Carbon is no stranger to many. Formula-1 enthusiasts in particular see the carbon bottles almost weekly during the award ceremony after the race. In addition to this multi-year partnership with Formula 1, Carbon now has a new very exclusive partnership: with Bugatti.

Champagne Carbon, the beverage company with those ridiculous but awesome carbon fiber bottles of bubbly that Formula 1 drivers shower themselves with on the podium, has teamed up with Bugatti to develop a bespoke bottle celebrating the automaker’s 110th anniversary in 2019.

Champagne Carbon CEO Alexandre Mea visited Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, France last week to formalise the partnership between the two French luxury brands. There, he met Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann and tested out a Chiron.

As part of the event, one of Bugatti’s Chirons finished in visible carbon fiber was parked next to a special bottle of the new ƎB.01 Champagne. ƎB, of course, is Bugatti’s stylized format for ‘EB’, the initials of Bugatti founder Ettore Bugatti.

On time for the celebration of Bugatti’s 110th anniversary next year, Carbon created the ‘ƎB.01’ Consisting of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. The vintage of this exclusive champagne was a very bright one for the Grand Est. 2002 saw Bugatti working at full speed on its modern era revival at the hands of the Bugatti Veyron, while extraordinarily in Champagne, it had the perfect weather conditions for good ripeness and flavor concentration. The creation of a unique and high quality Champagne Cuvée requires using grapes from the most prestigious terroirs of Champagne, precision, know-how and time. This particular vintage was just released from the Carbon vinotheque at the optimum maturity.

It isn’t clear if bottles of the ƎB.01 Champagne will be offered up to sale to the general public, or whether you’ll need to be an existing Bugatti owner to purchase one. One of Champagne Carbon’s standard bottles starts from around $3,000, so anyone getting their hands on the ƎB.01 will definitely want to save it for a special occasion.

Champagne Carbon was established six years ago but is related to a company that’s been making wine since the 1800s. Its Champagne is stored in a glass bottle that is wrapped in carbon fiber. The wrapping process requires a meticulous method to maintain the mandatory Champagne bottle shape, which is why Champagne Carbon charges so much per bottle.

Be responsible. Don’t drink and drive. Come in the beautiful world of Bugatti and Champagne Carbon.

Bugatti Chiron Sky View

bugatti-chiron-skyview-2.jpg

Replacing two panels in the roof with a glass and four composite layers, Bugatti is giving occupants of this new Chiron a clear view of the sky.

Debuting at the Monterey Car Week in August 2018, the new Bugatti Chiron Sky View is as close to a roofless Bugatti sport coupe as it gets. Thanks to newly developed laminated glass offering outstanding noise abatement and thermal comfort, engineers at Bugatti have replaced two panels in the roof of the Chiron Sky View. .

bugatti-chiron-skyview-1

The new Chiron Sky View takes its name from two fixed glass panels in the roof of the vehicle, each 65 cm long and 44 cm wide, above the driver’s and passenger’s seats. The newly developed laminated structure with thin glass and four intermediate layers are tinted to prevent dazzle effects and to protect occupants’ privacy from the outside while welcome the sky into the interior cabin.

bugatti-chiron-skyview-4

Furthermore, infrared radiation shielded, the rays bounce off rather than penetrate, leaving the cabin cool in addition and ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) radiation is filtered out. The glass panels offer occupants a quiet, panoramic view of the sky overhead even at the Chiron’s top speed of 261 mph.

bugatti-chiron-skyview-3

The beating heart of the new Chiron Sky View is one you’d recognise – a quad-turbocharged 8 l W16 engine with two-stage turbocharging system generating 1,500 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque, with an almost linear power curve between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. It’s not a roofless Chiron but it’s about as close as it gets.

Though slated to be presented in August at Pebble Beach, USA, the new Bugatti Chiron Sky View is available to market with immediate effect. The price? Don’t be so vulgair…

The Beauty & Beast Redefined: Bugatti Chiron Sport

2019-Bugatti-Chiron-Sport-Details-5-1440x900

Bugatti has honed the Chiron and is offering a Sport version of its 1,500 PS super sports car two years after its world debut at the Geneva International Motor Show. At the same venue this year, the French luxury brand is presenting the Chiron Sport which offers significantly improved handling and even greater agility with no change in the power or performance data.

Specially developed for those in search of a unique sporting character. The Bugatti Chiron Sport combines enhanced handling performance and astonishing agility with distinctive design and superlative comfort – an unforgettable driving experience.

For this purpose, Bugatti has developed a dynamic handling package and reduced the weight of its car by about 18 kilograms. As a result, the Chiron Sport reaches higher cornering speeds and can lap the Nardò handling circuit in the south of Italy five seconds faster than the Chiron.

2019-Bugatti-Chiron-Sport-Studio-1-1440x900

The main differences between the appearance of the Chiron Sport and the standard version are a new wheel design and new four-pipe exhaust deflector. The basic price of the Chiron Sport is €2.65 million net. A base price of US$3.26 million including transport, customs duties, taxes and fees has been set for the US market. In addition, there is an optional colour and trim package allowing customers to individually tailor the sporty appearance of their Chiron Sport. It is planned to deliver the first vehicles to customers at the end of the year.

We have developed the Chiron Sport for customers wanting an even sportier driving experience with their Chiron, with improved lateral dynamics on winding roads. What was important for us was to leave unchanged the unique character of the Chiron, its combination of ultimate performance, longitudinal acceleration and maximum speed with luxury, comfort and everyday usability.

Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S

This is why the extreme power and performance data of the Chiron as well as the ease and convenience of driving remain unchanged. There is however a significant improvement in the handling of the Chiron Sport.

The Chiron Sport has become perceptibly more nimble and its new agility, especially in tight corners makes for a much more emotional experience for the driver on winding roads and handling circuits.

Dynamic handling package and lighter weight make Chiron Sport faster

The Chiron Sport benefits from a new dynamic handling package. The Bugatti developers have defined a stiffer suspension. This includes a new control strategy for the shock absorbers, which react 10 percent more stiffly than on the Chiron on average. The steering has also been modified without sacrificing its outstanding direct feel and its calculable performance. These new settings only take effect in the Handling mode of the Chiron Sport, which is therefore distinguished from the EB mode more clearly for the driver.

In addition to these changes, the rear-axle differential has been optimised and the car now features a Dynamic Torque Vectoring function that distributes torque individually to the wheels on each side, significantly improving the steering behaviour and agility of the vehicle, especially in tight curves. This change is effective in all driving modes.

One of the modifications which make the Chiron Sport more nimble is a weight reduction of about 18 kilograms, thanks to the use of new lightweight parts. The greatest savings were possible as a result of the new lightweight wheels, together with increased use of carbon fibre, for example for the stabiliser, the intercooler cover or the newly developed windscreen wipers. The Chiron Sport also features lighter glass in the rear window and a new, lighter exhaust deflector.

As a result, the Chiron Sport has become even more responsive and corners even faster. On the handling course of the Nardò test circuit, Bugatti developers recorded a lap time which is five seconds faster than the base Chiron model. Due to its design the Nardò circuit is especially well-suited as a reference track for the Chiron, as the super sports car can reach its full handling potential even at cornering speeds in excess of 200 km/h.

Bugatti Chiron Sport: Expression, amplified

Lower weight, sharper expression – a specially developedrear window sits above the stunning carbon fibre intercooler cover, which can be optionally painted in the car’s exterior color.

2019-Bugatti-Chiron-Sport-Details-2-1440x900

Refined racing touches give the Chiron Sport a bold sporting character, emphasising the unmistakable Bugatti blend of distinctive exhilaration and sumptuous luxury. The new four-pipe exhaust deflector leaves a lasting impression.

The optional grey carbon fibre exteriorand the black anodised rear light bezel underline  the Chiron Sport’s personality.

2019-bugatti-chiron-sport-details-1-1440x900.jpg

At first glance, the Chiron Sport can be recognised by its new ‘Course’ alloy wheel rims. New components, such as these new lightweight wheels reduce the Chiron Sport’s weight to furter increase agility.

2019-Bugatti-Chiron-Sport-Details-3-1440x900

The windscreen wiper arms developed by Bugatti for the Chiron Sport are an interesting technical detail. This is the first production car to feature windscreen wiper arms made from carbon fibre. This new development means that Bugatti no longer needs the articulated joints which normally feature on conventional wipers. The function of these joints has been integrated into the carbon fibre structure of the wiper arms. In addition, the wiper arm tips, which are made from aluminium, are produced by a weight-saving 3-D printing process. This means that the new carbon fibre wipers are 77 percent or 1.4 kg lighter than their predecessors.
In addition, thanks to the new material, the wiper arms have a new profile that allows improved aerodynamic properties. The company hasn’t confirmed how many points of downforce the new wipers add, sadly.

More colour and trim options available for an even sportier look

In addition, Bugatti’s design team has created a package of colour and trim options for the Chiron Sport allowing customers to give their vehicles the sportiest look possible. The Chiron Sport on show in Geneva features all the options available. The vehicle body has a classic duo-tone colour scheme. The A-colour at the rear of the vehicle is determined by visible grey carbon; Italian Red paintwork at the front represents the B-colour. Apart from red, the colours available are ‘French Racing Blue’, the silver tone ‘Gris Rafale’ and a dark grey ‘Gun Powder’.

2019-Bugatti-Chiron-Sport-Details-8-1440x900

The distinctive Bugatti side line, a C-shaped trim strip made from aluminium alloy, is painted in the B-colour, in this case ‘Italian Red’. This red tone is also to be found on the brake calipers, the EB logo on the hubcaps, the underside of the rear spoiler and in the labelling on the intercooler cover. Here, it creates an exciting contrast with the ‘Gun Powder’ grey of the carbon fibre intercooler cover and the same tone which is used for paintwork on the wheel rims, the aluminium bezel of the Chiron’s iconic rear lights, the EB logo on the rear and the famous Bugatti horseshoe on the radiator grille.

A red ’16’ is positioned prominently on the black-painted grid of the radiator grille – referring to the number of cylinders which gives the Chiron engine its unique position.
Black is the dominant colour of the interior. All the controls of the car have a black anodised finish.

The B-colour of the exterior, ‘Italian Red’ on the Geneva show car, is used to create restrained but distinctive accents in the interior, for example on the stitching, the safety belt, the surround of the C-shaped light bar in the centre of the vehicle, the back of the rear-view mirror and the lining of the central console stowage compartment.
Including this optional colour and trim package, the Chiron Sport on show in Geneva costs €2.98 million net (US market: US$3.672 million gross), which probably makes it the most expensive production car on display at this year’s show.

Bugatti Chiron Sport: Divine comfort

2019-Bugatti-Chiron-Sport-Interior-1-1440x900

The Chiron Sport’s cabin boasts an extraordinary ambience of distinctive exhilaration and sumptuous luxury with an elegant material mix. The steering wheel and selector lever are covered with suede leather. In addition, Bugatti has used three materials for the styling of the interior: Alcantara for the roof liner including the A-pillar and sun blinds, the rear wall trim, the sill trims, the lower part of the central console, the insides of the seat side cushions and the boot lining. Smooth leather is used for the seats, the inside door trims, the islands on the dashboard including the instrument cluster trim, the airbag container on the steering wheel and the armrest and insert of the central console. Finally, the dashboard itself, the door trims, the rears of the backrests and the steering column housing are made from exposed carbon fibre, together with drive mode rotary knob and engine start button finished in black anodised aluminium.

Optionally, all trim parts can be finished with this black sporting touch.

The optional black anodised components and Alcantara detailing illustrate the Chiron Sport’s character.

Bugatti Revives the Vintage Type 57T Model for the Future

2017_04_bugatti-type-57t-future-concept-0a.jpg

Although the Veyron and Chiron are the models usually associated with Bugatti, artist Arthur B. Nustas recently released a concept looking to revive one of the French car manufacturer’s vintage models.

The concept rendering draws from the classic Bugatti Type 57T modernizing its headlamp aesthetic, curved door detailing and split color scheme. Starting with a Chiron base, Nustas translated the antique headlamps found on Type 57T to fit the more triangular modern design found on the futuristic concept vehicle.

Giorgio Armani creates clothing and accessories line for Bugatti

With a list price of $2,6 million, you can rest assured that most Bugatti Chiron owners won’t be getting behind the wheel wearing clothes from H&M and carrying bags they picked up at Walmart.

They’re more likely to be wearing, say, Armani, which is likely why the exotic automaker has teamed up with that very Italian fashion house for the latest additions to the Ettore Bugatti collection.

003_Lifestyle_Capsule_Collection_Rembrandt_Bugatti

The ‘Giorgio Armani for Bugatti’ range is a high-end men’s clothing and accessories collection aimed at sophisticated gents. It features superior-quality materials, such as calfskin, crocodile, cashmere and suede, used to craft a series of limited edition and individually numbered garments and accessories. The items are set to incorporate Bugatti signatures like the horseshoe-shaped grille and French racing blue.

It was very natural to come together with Bugatti. We both worship things that are made well, made to last, created out of the best materials. The capsule condenses this encounter in a series of clothes and accessories designed to be worn by men who only look for the best and who live an active and dynamic lifestyle.

Giorgio Armani

Due to land for the autumn/winter 2016-2017 season, the collection uses the symbols of the Bugatti brand, notably the horseshoe emblem seen on the front of its cars and the color blue. More generally, the collection’s color palette ranges from blue to cognac to khaki green.

EttoreBugattiCollection_MV_2.jpg

The collection includes a wide range of luxury accessories, including a handmade calfskin briefcase – also available in matte crocodile skin – a weekend bag, belts, washbags, wallets and iPad cases.
