Burberry unveils eco-friendly capsule collection made from recycled waste

Just this week, British luxury label Burberry has revealed the launch of a new eco-friendly collection – for men and women – in an attempt to join the circular economy in fashion. Four Instagram posts over two days unveil the luxury label’s staple coats, such as the Jacquard Parka and classic car coat, remade through sustainable means this time.

The coat collection is manufactured from Econyl® by Aquafil, a nylon yarn made from raw ingredients such as industrial plastic, floating rubbish and nets from the ocean and textile scraps from factories. Burberry claims to be ‘disrupting’ the industry, with the new Econyl® line, by repurposing plastic strewn in oceans and saving fabric waste from going to landfill simultaneously.

Revealing the range of eco-friendly coats on social media this week, the brand posted several images on its Instagram account — including a photo of its Econyl® Monogram Jacquard Parka, featuring a modern silhouette, accentuated with logo-print taping and jacquard-textures. So far, Burberry’s new collection comprises of coats and jackets:

The new capsule collection is just one example of the 50 disruptions the company has announced that it is progressively actioning throughout its supply chain. Commenting on the launch, Pam Batty, VP Corporate Responsibility at Burberry said the move is a step in the right direction towards the company’s future goal to become carbon neutral by 2022.

Burberry Monogram Stripe E-Canvas Zip Pouch

Burberry officially unveiled its #ThomasBurberryMonogram Collection on 22 May, an entire range dedicated to the new house code which features a set of interlocking TB logos together with additional stripes overlay for a graphic look.

It’s a collection that’s made for everyone, featuring RTW pieces for him and her (including pieces for the young ones), with a pretty good selection of bags and accessories to boot. What’s particularly interesting is the fact that the bags aren’t made entirely of leather (save for the trims and handles), nor are they made from coated canvas (found on the previous vintage check pattern) that you might be familiar with.

In fact, they are constructed from an environmentally conscious e-canvas that consists of renewable resources requiring less water to produce and generates less carbon dioxide than regular coated canvas. Made from 75% thermoplastic polyurethane and 25% cotton, e-canvas is Burberry’s approach to cleaner and greener fashion, starting with its accessories, bags and sneakers in the #ThomasBurberryMonogram collection.

A noteworthy piece in the bag line-up would be the Monogram Stripe E-Canvas Zip Pouch, a slim pouch measuring 30 cm by 20 cm that’s furnished with a slip pocket and 6 card slots on the interior. It’s a handy accessory that can be carried on its own, or you can always get creative and attach a leather loop to the ring at the side and you’ve got yourself a nice and chic wristlet.

If you’re a fan of bigger-sized bags, there are plenty of designs ranging from a cool bum bag to a crossbody camera bag, with the largest of them all being a barrel bag and tote bag that measure 46 cm by 24.5 cm and 43 cm by 35 cm respectively. While writing the notes I simply got impressed with the composition that seems truly inviting and very feminine. This nice burst of fruity/flower bouquet is daring and pleasantly tempting.

After stripping down for the ‘My Burberry Black’ fragrance campaign last year, actress Lily James returns for a new scent from the British brand. Called ‘My Burberry Blush’, perfumer Francis Kurkdjian and Burberry’s CCO Christopher Bailey created the scent. Mario Testino photographed Lily for the advertisement which features her posing topless with a pink trench for modesty.

English fashion house Burberry revealed the upcoming premiere of a new, floral edition of their best-selling perfume My Burberry. The new feminine and elegant perfume My Burberry Blush is composed of fruity/floral aromatic notes. My Burberry Blush is said to be returning to the gardens of London, but this time it is at the moment when the first morning sunshine rays hit the flowers in the garden.

Lily James stars in My Burberry Black campaign

Actress Lily James stars in her first ever advertising campaign for a label, and for Burberry no less. Lily James succeeds British models Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, who are the current faces of My Burberry. She called following in their footsteps ‘an honour’.

Lily James – best known for her role as Lady Rose in Downton Abbey and for playing Cinderella in the 2015 Disney film – is shown provocatively in nothing but a black trench coat, dancing in the rain under an umbrella. The British singer-songwriter Duffy sings ‘I Put A Spell On You’ in the background.

The steamy campaign was shot by the iconic photographer Mario Testino, under the creative direction of Burberry’s CEO Christopher Bailey, and, in a first for the brand, Lily James also took over its Snapchat today in anticipation of the company’s first sponsored Snapchat lens. The British actress features in several provocative shots, channeling the seductive fragrance of the new My Burberry Black.

The global launch of the sexy new fragrance last year was inspired by the heritage label’s (now combined holistically under the Burberry brand) black trench coat and created by legendary perfumer ‘wonder boy’ Francis Kurkdjian.

I like that there’s this sort of dark edge – the amber, and then there’s the rose and peach; it feels floral but with this kind of more sensual muskiness to it. It is sexy and sultry yet fresh.

A dark horn-finish cap echoes its distinctive buttons and the hand-tied black English-woven gabardine knot – made in Castleford, Yorkshire – honours the weatherproof fabric invented by Thomas Burberry over 100 years ago.
