The architecture of a simple, inviting, and peaceful Provençal villa. In the 1920s, high on the ridge of RoquebruneCap-Martin, Gabrielle Chanel had a house built in her image and filled it with private references: five windows above the front door in homage to her favorite number, 5, a banister inspired by Aubazine, the place where she grew up, and a large star above her bed, symbolizing her fascination with constellations. Mademoiselle Chanel gave this haven, a true respite from the hustle and bustle of Paris, a name: La Pausa.

Chanel has designed a collection replete with earthy, woodsy, golden shades. A celebration of the characteristic light that shines on the Riviera during the first days of spring.

Far from the city, it was where the designer came to unwind for more than 20 years, accompanied by some of her dearest friends, including Jean Cocteau, Misia Sert, and Salvador Dalí. She had her picture taken in her garden, surrounded by one-hundred-year-old olive trees and flowers, and threw casual, festive parties,

Her art de vivre permeates the entire property, from the garden to the luxurious bathroom. Everything exudes her style. As soon as spring arrives, the rooms are flooded with the gentle sunlight of the South of France, which makes La Pausa appear to shine as if untouched by time. Both in harmony with nature and located in the idyllic setting of the Côte d’Azur, La Pausa is an essential, joyful testament to the history, taste, and heritage of Gabrielle Chanel.

A warm, sunny collection

The beauty of this legendary villa inspired the Spring-Summer 2022 collection. The light of La Pausa, dear to Mademoiselle, is the central theme that guided the Maison’s Makeup Creation Studio. The natural, earthy colors and sparkling sunlight surrounding the villa are at the heart of this collection. The ‘sunbeam’ button motif is designed to represent the Riviera embossed on the powder products.

Chanel has also incorporated the soothing, healing spirit of La Pausa into the collection with the launch of Rouge Coco Baume. This moisturizing, tinted lip balm has all the qualities of a lipstick.

Rouge Coco Baume, color and care

Rouge Coco Baume is the major release of this new makeup collection. Just like the villa, Chanel’s latest lip balm is both chic and comforting. Its pared-down, all-white packaging can distinguish it. Rouge Coco Baume was designed in the same style as the iconic Rouge Coco line without compromising on effectiveness or aesthetics. The spirit of La Pausa inspired Chanel Research and the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio to develop a lip care product with unique sensory qualities, combining the color provided by a lipstick with the moisturizing benefits of a balm.

The skin on the lips, which is remarkably thin and lacks a natural protective film, requires special care. Rouge Coco Baume keeps the lips looking beautiful day after day with the help of Olive Oleoactive, a new active ingredient produced specifically for Chanel and an echo to La Pausa’s hundred-year-old olive trees.

Born a Leo on the 19th of August, 1883, Gabrielle Chanel adopted the image of the lion as her talisman. The lion symbol was also featured in her designs, and all her life she kept a lion statue next to her cigarettes and scissors.

In 2012, Maison Chanel launched the first jewelry collection ‘Sous Le Signe Du Lion’, inspired by the iconic fierce feline symbol. Last year we saw Sous Le Signe Du Lion Illuminating Powders, and this year, the king of the jungle returns in the gold-toned leonine face palette and an expertly curated selection of eyeshadows.

A lion’s strength suggests courage and flamboyance in the woman who wears its image or colours. With Maximalisme De Chanel, I wanted to create an exaggerated, glamorous attitude, a commitment to positivity – something to wear for more outgoing moments.

Embossed with a lion – the personal emblem of Gabrielle Chanel and the sign under which she was born – this golden holiday highlighter powder delivers a subtle shimmer to enhance the complexion for a fierce look.

One of the stars of this collection (I use that term loosely, because in my opinion everything here is simply stunning), this is an ivory-gold highlighter bearing an ultrafine complex shimmer, a semi-sheer texture, and a buildable finish. The soft, micro-fine formula dusts seamlessly onto skin for a smooth, radiant finish. The beautifully rendered lion on the powder’s surface is a raised detail and even though it will wear down with use, it’s still something to behold, wouldn’t you agree? The colour is actually an excellent balance of both warm & cool tones and thus wearable by a broad range of skin tones.

How to use:

Sweep Le Lion de Chanel Illuminating Powder into skin wherever you would like a luminous glow. Build coverage for a more intense highlighting effect. Apart from being used as a traditional highlighter, you can also wear it along eyes – just add a few coats of mascara for an elegant yet impactful look, or even dusted along collar bones if you’re feeling extra.

 

Chanel Ombre Première

Available in Electrum Lamé, Metallic & Vert Lamé, and bearing a mini lion head each that’s just as finely wrought as that of the highlighter, these are highly pigmented eye shadows in a lush metallic finish. The texture is almost creamy to the touch and a little goes a long way; start with a light amount and build up if need be. Easily blended out, you can also apply either with a dampened brush for mega intensity – just stick to one corner of the pan for that to keep the rest of the powder pristine. Wear time over primer is excellent, staying true until removed.

Bearing some of Lucia Pica’s favourite shades, this palette has 5 lip hues in a range of finishes: sheer, satin & matte. Also including two mini dual-ended brushes that are not only travel-friendly, but work amazingly well, each colour is large enough to accommodate your finger for application. It should be noted that the second and third shades (from the left) have the highest colour payoff and will fade to a nice stain, while the first & fourth are much more emollient and semi-opaque. The last shade, regardless of how scary dark it may look in the pan, is actually the sheerest and has a balm-like feel upon the lips. Wear time will obviously depend on selected hue, along with whatever eating/drinking you plan on doing. Maison Chanel invites you to luxuriate in the summertime with the sun-drenched, luminous postcard colours of the new make-up collection Dans La Lumière de L’Été (In The Summer Light). Skin is brightened by the light-and-shade play of healthy glow powders. Eyes are enhanced by an ombré effect of ochres and browns. Lips are sunkissed by coral and pink. Nails get noticed in smoldering shades.

The Dans La Lumière de L’Été make up collection is set to be rolled out next month and will see a more natural look for the skin, eyes and lips. For summer 2016, Chanel brightens skin for a natural, healthy glow with Les Beiges, Healthy Glow Multi-Color Power….

Two new powder duos give you a healthy glow: Duo N°1 features a terra cotta brown to define the contours of the face and a golden sand colour to bring touches of light to the cheeks and temples. Duo N°2 includes a deep pink for cheekbones and a pretty light beige to highlight the complexion (€55).

Though the collecton takes its inspiration from nature, the eyes get a bit more love with a satin and shimmer finish. Chanel’s Makeup Creation Studio has crafted a new and exclusive limited-edition version of its classic eyeshadow quad, with Les 4 Ombres Empreinte du Désert. This has coppery brown, golden beige, brown and khaki green shades, which can be used alone or together for different effects (€51).
