Johnny Depp signs new $20 million USD Dior Sauvage deal

French Maison Dior has officially extended its partnership with actor Johnny Depp. The LVMH-owned French luxury house has resigned a new three-year $20 million USD deal with Depp for Dior Sauvage. This makes it the largest male fragrance deal ever signed.

According to Variety, Depp’s Dior Sauvage deal eclipses Robert Pattinson’s $12 million USD Dior Homme deal and Brad Pitt’s $7 million USD Chanel No.5 deal (one short clip, and one photoshoot). Depp has fronted the Sauvage fragrance since its launch in 2015. Dior’s move to continue its partnership with Depp comes after the Maison gained much scrutiny for supporting the actor after a U.K. court ruled against him in his 2020 libel suit from his ex-wife Amber Heard. Since then, Depp has prevailed after he won the defamation trial against Heard. Following the win, Dior Sauvage sales reportedly skyrocketed with Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH citing that the “image of Johhny Depp” is one of the main reasons that the fragrance has become “a remarkable success”.

The announcement of the Dior deal comes just as Depp is expected to be at Cannes Film Festival for the May 16 world premiere of Maïwenn’s historical drama ‘Jeanne du Barry’, where he plays King Louis XV. He will also be attending a Dior dinner on May 17 prior to heading to London for a Jeff Beck tribute the following day, where he will perform alongside Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart. With the new deal between Dior and Depp, it appears that the French luxury Maison is not quite ready to give up on their relationship just yet.

Maison Christian Dior launched, early this spring, a new edition of its famous Sauvage perfume with a more soft, airy, and fresh aroma named Sauvage Very Cool Spray.

The classic and brand’s iconic Sauvage perfume, known as an aromatic Fougere fragrance, has turned into a more cool/freshness aroma. A refreshing reinterpretation of the original in a convenient packaging.

Christian Dior Sauvage Very Cool Spray is created by the in-house perfumer Francois Demachy as a warm spicy, aromatic, and fresh perfume designed to please men during the whole day. Any man will find the new version easier and lighter, rather the original fragrance, with a cool aroma made of fresh grapefruit, bergamot and lime notes. The heart settles down with spicy aromas of pink pepper, vetiver, elemi, Sichuan pepper, lavender, and patchouli notes along with base accords of cedar and ambroxan.

I saw Sauvage Very Cool Spray as a way of highlighting the Eau de Toilette’s structure. I wanted to reveal its essence, so that it can remain a strong, fresh and direct signature.
