Clarins Introduces T.R.U.S.T., A Platform Using Blockchain Technology To Provide Transparency On Ingredient Traceability And Product Manufacturing

Following its ethical and sustainable commitments, Clarins takes one step further in consumer transparency by launching T.R.U.S.T., a one of-a-kind platform base on blockchain technology to share full traceability of the ingredients that go into product formulas as well as the manufacturing process. Starting today with the latest product batch numbers, anyone has access to:

  • All steps in the product manufacturing process – including quality and safety controls, where and the product has been formulated and packed.
  • Exhaustive information regarding plant-based ingredients – including geographical origin, harvesting method and Clarins sourcing certifications.
  • Behind the Clarins expertise – via visuals and testimonies from our factory, laboratories, and overall facilities in Pontoise (France).

To make T.R.U.S.T. possible, Clarins uses the blockchain technology to ensure safety and transparency of the process. The blockchain technology is used to store and transmit information in the safest way possible as it does not have a centralized control system. It forms a database that records secured exchanges between different users (suppliers, producers) and once a piece of information is entered in the system, the blockchain technology certifies their authenticity, without allowing anything to be modified.

Clarins T.R.U.S.T. is an ongoing initiative and while not all products and ingredients are available yet, the list is growing every day for total transparency. 30 products and 40 plant extracts can now be found, and there will be close to 100 by the end of 2023.

By simply entering a product batch code on Clarins T.R.U.S.T. platform, anyone can have access to the manufacturing process and discover the origins of its plant ingredients: https://traceability.trust.clarins.com/en_US

Clarins continues to move forward with its CSR strategy, becoming an official member of the UEBT

It all began in Paris on March 15, 1954, when Jacques Courtin-Clarins opened his first Clarins Institute with the pioneering belief that well-being and happiness were inextricably linked to beauty – a daring holistic vision that he was the first to express and apply. At the same time, celebrities were beginning to unveil their bodies on the covers of magazines. The era of physical and mental freedom was dawning – a revolution in which Jacques Courtin-Clarins played an important role by telling women, “Yes, you are beautiful!”.

In France, where skin care has always been paramount, his success was immediate. Word soon spread and Clarins products became available worldwide. Today, Clarins continues to design and produce its products in France and remains faithful to its original philosophy – listening to women (and men!) to truly understand their needs, and developing safe, natural and highly effective skin care products.

Starting with it in 1954, Clarins will always choose a natural ingredient over a chemical one, if it delivers the same level of effectiveness. This is the golden rule that all Clarins researchers follow when designing their innovative new products.

The French Maison uses over 250 natural plant extracts in its formulas. All are carefully selected for their effectiveness and are delivered in an optimal formula to reveal the beauty of every woman and man. Each ingredient is sourced with the utmost care for the environment to protect our planet’s biodiversity.

Clarins is committed to respecting nature and protecting biodiversity. They support local communities and purchase their raw materials in accordance with fair trade principles. They respect current and future generations. As a consumer and a global citizen, they hope that you share their commitment to protecting the environment.

On 10th December 2021, Clarins became an official member of Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT). This recognizes our company’s commitment to sourcing that always respects biodiversity and people.

This membership is a step. By accepting us, UEBT recognizes the attention we give to the quality of our sourcing. But above all, it requires us to continually do even more. And luckily we happen to share this goal of continued progress in sourcing that respects people and the planet. There is no approach more coherent with the double promise of Clarins We Care: ‘care for people, care for the planet’.

Virginie Courtin-Clarins, Deputy Managing Director of Clarins Group

Created in 2007, UEBT brings together companies who wish to engage in ethical sourcing of their ingredients of natural origin. Partner of the United Nations Convention for biological diversity, this international NGO promotes best practices and encourages each of its members to do even more in sourcing supplies that respect biodiversity and people.

Respect of ethical criteria

This initiative of Clarins with UEBT began at the end of 2019. Becoming a member firstly supposes demonstrating that a company like ours respects the ethical criteria of a fair relationship, in particular through the sharing of benefits, a sustainable socio-economic commitment and the preservation of ecosystems.

An action plan to do even more

This required minimum is just a starting point: being a member of UEBT also and above all means being committed to doing even better tomorrow.

To confirm its member status, in 2021 Clarins defined an action plan which will be reviewed every three years. On the agenda are different measures which will ensure continued progress in human and environmental ethics : sustainability and conservation of biodiversity, the fair and equitable sharing of value, the respect of people’s rights and socio-economic sustainability, etc. Our Responsible Sourcing Charter and 2025 commitment to 100% sustainable sourcing are naturally at the heart of our initiative with UEBT.

Always ready to listen, do more and do better. This is the Clarins story.

Clarins donate 30,000 moisturizing creams to hospitals

Clarins-Corona-01

Day and night, the hands of healthcare professionals provide care and help, bring hope and comfort. This routine is hard on the hands, the skin suffers and becomes dry.

In the upcoming weeks, as a way of supporting these professionals in their fight against the epidemic, we will donate 30,000 moisturizing creams to hospitals.

Olivier Courtin-Clarins

The French Maison have already produced and offered more than 18,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to AP-HP, Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris and hospitals in the Ile-de-France region. From now until the end of April, Clarins will produce 100 tons of hand sanitizer. In the next few days, they will do everything they can to respond to the demand from other hospitals across the world.

Clarins-Corona-02

Clarins also wanted to allow their customers to contribute to this wave of solidarity. On their French website, they can donate €1 to support hospitals.

Thank you to our Production, Research and Development teams, our suppliers and carriers, who have also been supplied with hand sanitizer so that they too can continue protecting themselves. Without them, none of this would be possible ❤️.

Olivier Courtin-Clarins

Clarins-Corona-03

Thank you to our clients for their generosity and for sharing the same values as we do.

In this way, Clarins humbly contribute to the extraordinary collective effort we are witnessing today. Come into the beautiful world of Clarins.

Clarins donated hand sanitizers for healthcare workers

Clarins-Corona-00

Due to the increasing number of coronavirus patients, hospitals are experiencing shortages of important supplies, such as hand sanitizer. Many hospitals are even asking for and accepting donations of N95 masks and other supplies.

To help fight against the spread of COVID-19, major beauty companies, like Clarins, are now starting to repurpose their manufacturing facilities to make hand sanitizer.

During this international health crisis related to the Covid-19, as a socially responsible company, French Maison Clarins have decided that their industrial sites in Pontoise as well as in Strasbourg and Amiens will help deliver hand sanitizer to French hospitals.

A big THANK YOU to our production and R&D teams as well as hospitals staff for their engagement amid these exceptional circumstances! Thanks to them, to our suppliers and carriers, we are proud to be able to do our part, in line with values we have always stood for. Take care of yourself and your loved ones ❤️.

Clarins

Clarins have already produced and offered 14,500 bottles of 400ml to hospitals. Clarins says this is a first step, and they will continue to do so for as long as it’s needed in adequate sanitary conditions.

Clarins Everlasting Youth Fluid Foundation SPF15

clarins-everlasting-youth-fluid-foundation-video-visual-1.jpg

French Maison Clarins launched its new Everlasting Youth Fluid Foundation, which combines the best of Clarins skincare and makeup. The foundation is particularly aimed at helping the aging skin to restore its youthful radiance. According to the brand, by the age of 50, the skin loses up to 34% of its ability to reflect and radiate light. This happens due to natural changes in the skin, such as the loss of density, more visible wrinkles, and changes in the skin texture.

Clarins reveals the secret to Everlasting Youth

Clarins’ Everlasting Youth Fluid Foundation delivers a powerful dual effect by smoothing and toning the skin to restore its girlish radiance. A blend of ingredients, including collagen-boosting Chicory, mildly exfoliating Red Jania extract, and skin tightening Organic Oat extract, improves the skin’s light reflection properties while making it firmer and smoother.

A blend of protective botanicals, such as Organic Nipplewort, Organic White Horehound and Furcellari, protects the skin from environmental pollution. On the makeup side, the foundation is infused with a skin tone optimizing complex, containing pigment coated pearls, to create a luminous rosy reflection without setting in the fine lines and wrinkles.

Finally, the foundation is fortified with SPF 15, which blocks 93 percent of UVB rays, if applied properly. The foundation is available in 24 beautiful shades (the exact number of shades depends on the market, which should be more than enough to cover all skin tones and ethnicities.

L’Oréal to buy Mugler and Azzaro from Clarins

loreal-paris

In 1909, Eugène Paul Louis Schueller, a young French chemist of German descent, developed a hair dye formula called Oréale. Schueller formulated and manufactured his own products, which he then decided to sell to Parisian hairdressers. On 31 July 1919, Schueller registered his company, the Société Française de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux (Safe Hair Dye Company of France). The guiding principles of the company, which eventually became L’Oréal, were research and innovation in the field of beauty. In 1920, the company employed three chemists. By 1950, the team was 100 strong; by 1984 was 1,000 and is nearly 82,000 today.

L’Oréal got its start in the hair-colour business, but the company soon branched out into other cleansing and beauty products. L’Oréal currently markets over 500 brands and thousands of individual products in all sectors of the beauty business: hair colour, permanents, hair styling, body and skin care, cleansers, makeup and fragrance. In the years L’Oréal build a large portofolio of brands like: Lancôme, Helena Rubinstein, Biotherm, Kiehl’s, Giorgio Armani Beauté, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, Viktor & Rolf, Cacharel, Maison Margiela and Ralph Lauren Fragrances, to name just a few.

And now L’Oréal is in exclusive negotiations to acquire perfume brands Mugler and Azzaro from Clarins Group, the French beauty giant announced this morning.

The perfume category is at the heart of our global strategy for growth at L’Oréal Luxe. In this context, we would be thrilled to welcome Mugler and Azzaro: these signatures, with a long history in fashion and olfaction, would perfectly complete our portfolio of brands.

Cyril Chapuy, President of L’Oréal Luxe.

L’Oréal has not confirmed the financial details of the planned acquisitions, other than that the deal is currently under discussion and subject to approval from regulators.
The purchase is expected to be completed later in the year.
L’Oréal’s prestige perfume has seen strong growth in recent years with the commercial success of Lancôme’s La Vie est Belle (one of the best-selling fragrances in Europe and the US), Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opiumand Giorgio Armani’s Sì Passione and Acqua di Giò Absolu.

The firm’s Luxe Division grew by 10% in 2018. However, the brand owner has seen its mass brands category struggle last year, particularly in Western Europe.

Clarins Introduces New Face Scrubs

Iconic French beauty brand Claring renews and extends its scrub range with a trio of completely new face scrubs. Each of them features a unique texture and provides targeted action for a clean, soft, and supple skin.

These new generation scrubs are gentle, soft and creamy, true hybrids between a mask and an exfoliator. Clarins’ new Scrubs can be used on their own or combined together for a multi-masking treatment. They’re great for all skin types, and formulated with natural ingredients such as beads from wood cellulose, lava and beetroot sugar. These purifying and nourishing scrubs are available in three versions:

Clarins Comfort Scrub

Comfort Scrub is a nourishing, oil based, face scrub with sugar microcrystals that has been created for dry skin to remove dead skin cells and restore skin lipids.

Comfort Scrub is a pleasant peeling formulated with nourishing oils and beetroot sugar crystals. The oil-in-gel formula emulsifies in contact with water, turning into a rich cream, while the sugar crystals gently remove dead cells from the surface of the skin. This scrub is rich in mango butter, so it can also be used as a lip treatment.

Clarins Fresh Scrub

Fresh Scrub is a refreshing, cream based, face scrub with natural beads that has been created for dehydrated skin to remove dead skin cells and boost the skins ability to retain water.

The Fresh Scrub is a refreshing and cooling blue scrub that softens and brightens the skin as it removes impurities and dead skin cells. The formula is based on organic leaf extracts, moisturizing hyaluronic acid, and two types of cellulose beads – the large ones that remove dead tissue, and small ones to smooth out the surface of the skin.

Clarins Pure Scrub

Pure Scrub is a purifying, gel-based, face scrub with lava beads that has been created for oily skin to unclog pores and remove excess sebum from the skin.

The Pure Scrub is a mattifying, shine-controlling, pore-reducing scrub that gently cleanses and refreshes the skin. The scrub contains natural volcanic lava beads that provide deep cleansing action, remove dead tissues, and unclog the pores. In contact with water, the creamy formula turns to foam.

How to use

After cleansing, moisten the skin. Warm a pea-sized amount of scrub in your hands. Massage in gently without rubbing or applying pressure, avoiding the eye area. Rinse with water.

Besides cleansing, regular exfoliating prevents wrinkle formation. It activates regeneration of skin, and stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, thus reducing the dryness.

Clarins’ new face scrubs will be available in 50ml tubes at selected stores worldwide later this month. Come into the beautiful world of Clarins.
