Dior Beauty as a Legacy, in complete transparency

In a world that is continually evolving, French Maison Christian Dior has fully taken on its role as a pioneering actor for change since 1947. At a time when cosmetics paradigms are evolving drastically, the Maison has decided to reveal all.

From February 2022, on the Dior website, the compositions of beauty references (perfume, skincare and makeup) will be revealed and explained, in terms of: natural origin rates, active ingredients, the origins and cultivation methods of the signature Maison ingredients of natural origin and their transformation methods, and environmental impact including packaging. For maximum clarity, the different ingredients are classified by family, then explained and listed by their benefits.

In order to better understand the expectations of women & men throughout the world, in 2021, Dior Research launched a vast study among 1500 luxury consumers in France, China and the United States. At the heart of the economic revival, Dior asked: what are their needs, wants and worries? What do they expect from the cosmetics of tomorrow?

In these three countries, across all generations (aged 18 to 75), two fundamental centres of interest clearly emerge:
– Health, mainly the safety of products ingested and/or applied to the skin,
– Respect for the environment (global warming and pollution).

Dior has decided to reveal and explain the composition of each product, beneath its description, at their website itself. The origins and cultivation methods of the signature Maison natural origin ingredients are displayed, as are the major aspects of eco-design in their packaging.

This information enables you to choose with certainty, the formula you want to have in contact with your skin, and the object you want to have in your bathroom. Almost 1,000 skincare, makeup and perfume references are already present in the catalogue, and upcoming new products will also appear.

Dior is committed to gradually updating its entire catalogue by enriching it with this information, which will be translated into every language. The documents will also be available via a QR Code on the packaging of new launches.

Whether perfume bottles, cream jars, lipstick mechanisms or cases, Dior describes the eco-design of its products as well as the process involved (recycled materials, the nature of renewable sourcing, separability, refill systems and recyclability). The French Maison also provides separation advice for recycling in a global and educational approach to reducing the environmental footprint of cosmetics over time.

Believe it or not, but Dior’s classic Rouge Dior Lipstick has been around for more than 60 years! This cult-favorite product made its debut back in 1953! As Monsignor Christian Dior stated on a number of occasions, the Rouge Dior lipstick is inspired by the timeless archetypes of beauty, silkiness and colors of Dior’s lush fabrics. In 2016, the entire range has been reformulated, expanded with new color families, and offered in new finishes. The face of the new lipstick campaign is Dior’s style ambassador Natalie Portman.

The most important addition to the range is Dior Rouge Dior Extreme Matte Lipstick – a brand new texture, based on an lip-caring formula that delivers no less than 16 hours of wear, without drying out the lips. The Extreme Matte Lipsticks are infused with mango butter and hydrating aroleat samphire, a wax obtained from a coastal plant Criste Marine. Christian Dior’s Archi Dior Collection

“I wanted to be an architect; but as a couturier I am obliged to follow the laws and principles of architecture”, explained Christian Dior in 1956, at a conference held at the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris. From his first show, he imbued his creations with their architectural elegance and also defined a style and a spirit.

In tribute to this unique creative vision, two years ago Victoire de Castellane designed the Archi Dior fine jewellery collection, then last year a collection in which each piece took the name of a couture line or an iconic dress, adapting a fabric’s special way of moving to the language of stones and precious metals.

05_slideshow_archidiorThis year, the Archi Dior jewellery collection welcomes eight pieces inspired by the Cocotte houndstooth dress from the spring-summer 1948 collection with its volume swept to the back, as well as the Milieu du Siècle line from the autumn-winter 1949-1950 presentation based on the internal geometry of the fabrics. The silhouette of the Cocotte design gave rise to an asymmetric ring and necklace on white gold and diamonds. And the flow of the Milieu du Siècle line’s curves appear in a gold and diamond necklace, in two pairs of white gold and diamond earrings, as well as three rings in white gold and diamonds, and rose gold, with or without diamonds. “I selected the strongest and most interesting movements in order to adapt them in metal. It’s no longer a pleated dress, but the idea of a pleat,” the Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie explains.

Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, has reinterpreted four cult colors from Dior’s history. The House’s first crimson red is revisited in a matte version in 999 Matte. The soft coral red of 080 Red Smile references 080 Red, a fresh and bright lipstick created by Christian Dior in 1959. With its intense fuchsia, 047 Miss evokes the rose present in the Miss Dior fragrance, conceived by the couturier-perfumer in 1947. Lastly, natural and light 060 Première is an homage to the bois de rose created by Monsieur Dior who gave it the number 60.

The opening notes of a red fruit, raspberry, pomegranate and blackcurrant accord are heightened by the spicy, teasing tingle of pink peppercorn, springing from the bottle. The magnificent Grasse Rose absolute unfurls its sensual accords, the Rosa Centifolia (so named for its 100 petals) diffuses its honeyed and peppery notes. It works in perfect harmony with the Rosa Damascena. The fragrance is upheld by a base of white musk that envelops the entire compositions and springs up to reach the fruity top notes giving a consistently fresh scent.
