Elie Saab launches a new perfume Essence No.10 Amande Tonka part of the famous La Collection des Essences. The last in the series were Essence No.8 Santal and Essence No.9 Tubéreuse. Created by Francis Kurkdjian, No.10 Amande Tonka is an elegant perfume composed of almond, tonka bean and sandalwood notes.

Almond essence blends with tonka bean to weave a voluptuous and subtle palette of almond nuances.

Perfume house Maison Francis Kurkdjian enters LVMH portfolio

French luxury goods company LVMH has agreed to buy a majority stake in French independent perfume house Maison Francis Kurkdjian as it expands in fast-growing niche luxury fragrances.

In 1985, at the age of 26, Francis Kurkdjian created a perfume that would become the catalyst for his career; Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male. Now, the French-Armenian perfumer, who launched his eponymous brand in 1999 with French-Lebanese businessman, a former partner at Ernst & Young in Paris, Marc Chaya, has become the latest to sell to the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey (LVMH) portofolio.

Speaking about the new partnership in which both Kurkdjian and Chaya will continue in their roles, Bernard Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH says: “I am delighted to welcome Maison Francis Kurkdjian to the LVMH Group. Their avant-garde spirit and the quality of their creations give this fragrance House great potential and a promising future”.

“LVMH clearly understands the nature of our Maison, and the Group’s approach to custom-crafted creativity guarantees that our distinctive identity will thrive for the long-term”, added Kurkdjian, who has also previously crafted perfumes for Christian Dior, Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Versace, Nina Ricci, Baccarat, Carven, Narciso Rodriguez, Kenzo and Elizabeth Arden.

Exploring new creative territories in fragrances through his own bespoke fragrance atelier, collaborations with artists and pop-up installations. Francis Kurkdjian received the honorary title of Chevalier des Arts et Lettres in 2008, and became a member in January 2016 of Comité Colbert, the association promoting French luxury and know-how.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian, with estimated annual sales of between 15 and 20 million euros, has two stores in Paris, four in Taiwan, one in Malaysia and another in Dubai.

Its perfumes, which cost up to 1,200 euros ($1,290) for 70 milliliters, are sold in more than 500 select locations in more than 40 countries.

Last year, crystal manufacturer Baccarat celebrated its 250th anniversary with the launch of the Baccarat Rouge 540 fragrance as a high point of the festivities. Presented in a beautiful, precious handmade Baccarat crystal bottle, the scent was carefully created by the perfumer Francis Kurkdjian.

The company is renowned for its chandeliers and glassware with these red crystal embellishments – red being the signature colour of Baccarat since 1847 when its first red crystal was created. And it is this transubstantiation of heat and mineral, as well as the sublime craftsmanship required to create the red Baccarat crystal, that has inspired this perfume and which Kurkdjian has attempted to recreate in fragrance form.

Created for both men and women, the Baccarat Rouge 540 fragrance is the result of a partnership between the crystal manufacturer Baccarat and the perfume house Maison Francis Kurkdjian.

The name of this very special anniversary limited edition was inspired by the bottle manufacturing process. Clear crystal mixed with 24-carat gold powder is gradually heated to a temperature of 540 degrees, metamorphosing it into a golden red color.

Floral notes may be very popular among the masses, but I believe I’m in the minority of those who just aren’t into them mostly. Though Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 has floral notes, it’s the mix of woods and amber that totally make it completely for me. It’s an amazing blend of floral and woody which is perfect for a life-long floral opponent quite like myself. I imagine Dominique Deveraux on Dynasty would love a fragrance like this.

I’m a bit of a beauty snob, but there is truly nothing like an amazing high end fragrance that speaks to you and your senses. Baccarat Rouge 540 ranks high among the fragrances I’ve tried and will be in heavy rotation through summer. As expected with a fragrance of this caliber, it will last throughout the entire day. A perfume that is luminous, dense and intense.

 

Mr and Mrs Burberry

Burberry is revving its engine in the fragrance market, and the British heritage brand is leaving it in the hands on some pretty big names.

Burberry felt Mrs. Burberry  (2014) needed a lover. A woody herbal Eau de Toilette, inspired by the heritage of British male perfumery. Slated for an April 2016 launch, Burberry’s new fragrance, Mr. Burberry, is inspired by the brand’s British-made Heritage trench coat. Yes, that iconic trench that, after many years, continues to have the world in a frenzy. The bottle even incorporates elements of the storied trench with the neck of the bottle tied with the same gabardine material the house uses to make its trench coats, and the cap, the Bakelite Burberry uses for their buttons.

Mr. Burberry, created by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, has top notes of zesty grapefruit, tarragon and cardamom. Middle notes of birch leaf, nutmeg oil and cedarwood. And base notes of sandalwood, vetiver and guaiac wood.

Shot by acclaimed Oscar® and Turner Prize-winning British director Steve McQueen, the campaign is his first commercial film and marks the first time Burberry and the acclaimed director have collaborated. Set in London, the film features British actor Josh Whitehouse and British model & actress Amber Anderson.

Burberry will launch Mr. Burberry in April, 2016.
