This great Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is located in the famous building of the previous Sweelinck conservatorium. It’s building was originally constructed in tate 19th-century.

Located deep in the heart of Amsterdam’s museum district, the musical past of the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam is still audible, and visible. First designed by revered Dutch architect Daniel Knuttel at the turn of the 19th-century, the Conservatorium’s well-known structure housed a major bank for 77 years before becoming the city’s premier music conservatory from 1983 to 2003.Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam

Intrigued by its architecture and history, Milan-based star architect Piero Lissoni created a hybrid of modern heritage for the hotel, boasting an intriguing contrast of Neo-Gothic Dutch architecture and Italian design. The original lofty ceilings have been left intact in almost half of the 129 rooms, and transformed into stunning duplexes with large windows and exposed structural beams. A particularly spectacular element is the courtyard covered entirely in glass, creating a wonderful contrast between the old and the new, the classic and the modern.

The property, which is part of the Design Hotels portfolio, pays aural tribute to the Amsterdam Conservatorium’s legacy, as soothing classical music selections echo through its vaulted ceilings. In fact, the Concerto Suite even boasts a Steinway Baby Grand piano.

Marking the 125th anniversary of the death of Van Gogh, the Van Gogh Europe Foundation is also seizing the opportunity to honour the Dutch artist with programmes such as exhibitions, cycle routes and art events. The activities will take place in the various locations where Van Gogh lived and worked during his life, and also in museums where his works are preserved, examined and displayed. The common theme that has been chosen is ‘125 years of inspiration’ and the idea behind this is that the artist continues to inspire many people up till today.

Hotel d’Angleterre’s Royal Suite, Copenhagen

Renowned luxury publication Robb Report has curated a list of the most luxurious suites in Europe alone. These fabulous living arrangements have the best interiors, views or amenities or a perfect mix of all. They also come at a heavy price though almost everything with that standard of extravagance does. Also the Hotel d’Angleterre’s Royal Suite is on their list.

Established in 1755, the d’Angleterre is an icon and a historic landmark in Copenhagen, celebrated for its elegance, luxury and style. Inspired by its rich heritage the hotel has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and has reopened as a revitalized grand palace. Balancing legacy and style with intuitive and tailored services, the d’Angleterre will complement the desires of today’s refined travelers.

The d’Angleterre is the result of a love affair between two young people. In the middle of the 1700’s Jean Marchal, a servant in the royal court, and Maria Coppy, daughter to the royal chef, fell in love. Maria was known for her cooking talent and Jean knew everything about serving the privileged. Together Mr. and Mrs. Marchal established a restaurant on Kongens Nytorv in 1755. This is where the d’Angleterre story begins.

The founder, Jean Marchal and his successors’ talent and sense for providing exceptional service, hospitality and comfort has carried the identity of the d’Angleterre throughout more than 250 years. This tradition is the foundation of the d’Angleterre legacy.

Today, the owners and every member of staff affectionately carry on the tradition of passion for service that has earned the hotel its 5-star deluxe rating.

The 260-year old suite holds a lot of history through the years and a lot of it remains the same as it was when it first opened. Grand chandeliers hang from the cherub decorated ceilings and antique furniture, including a WWII desk used by German occupiers, decorates the room. Local Danish Bang & Olufsen electronics give the suite an elegant balance of old and new. The room has an attached private balcony from where guests can view the Kongens Nytorv or The King’s Square, the Nyhavn Canal, the Royal Theatre and the pedestrian shopping street Strøget, which are all also walking distance from the hotel.
