The creations of Maison Houbigant, with only the finest ingredients, perpetuate the tradition of the Cologne originale. It is a precious Cologne with a conventional structure enriched by modern elements. Jean-Marie Farina, creator of the original cologne at the start of the 18th century, described it as:
A spring morning after the rain: it reminisces of oranges, lemons, grapefruit, bergamot, cedarwood, flowers and herbs of my land, it refreshes and stimulates one’s senses and imagination.
Light, Fresh, Discreet, Delicate, Cologne is associated to the idea of scented water. The name evokes other suggestions, sun, sea, lavender fields, citrus groves. Exactly what its inventor, Jean- Marie Farina, had in mind when he began marketing the first bottles of his aqua mirabilis, three hundred years ago, in 1709.

Houbigant Cologne Intense, the bottle recreates the unique though by René Lalique in the early 20th century for Maison Houbigant (Click photo to enlarge).
The name ‘Eau de Cologne’ (Water from Cologne) was given by the soldiers of Louis XV who brought back this incredible perfume from the city of Cologne during the ‘Seven years war’ and introduced it to the Royal court of France.
Cologne has become a generic term, but the original formula is only one, which has bewitched distinguished clients from every era: Charles VI, Louis XV of France, Frederick William Ist of Prussia, Napoleon Bonaparte, Mark Twain, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Konrad Adenauer, Indira Gandhi, Romy Schneider, Begum Andrée Aga Khan, Begum Om Habibeh Aga Khan and Princess Diana. The Cologne of House of Houbigant is true to the original formula and uses only the world best raw materials available. Cologne Intense is a modern interpretation of the Eau de Cologne. An olfactory journey from past to future that immediately conquers the senses with its refined freshness. The scent starts on sunny citrus notes of Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian lemon with green highlights of Petit Grain from Paraguay and bright notes of Neroli from Morocco. Then aromatic top notes of lavender and tarragon and spicy notes of pink pepper. Inside the floral heart blooms a beautiful Indian jasmine, wrapped in precious incense and Maté essences. The intense and deep notes of patchouli and oak moss are warmed by the labdanum and amber. The composition is made complete by a precious musk which give a deep, lasting and unusual power to the Cologne.

Perfumes extracts are the most precious declination of fragrances. Extracts are the ultimate form of a perfume, they are more sophisticated, long lasting, and every facet is in greater harmony. The common belief is that Extracts are heavier, however it is the opposite, the concentration helps the precious oils to evaporate more gradually and to last longer. The perfume extract should be the star of a perfume line and not an ancillary only to be used sparingly. The House of Houbigant has always believed the use of the extract is the best way to wear a fragrance and now offers a more comfortable way of using it. The Cologne is an olfactory journey from past to future that immediately conquers the senses with its refined freshness.
The fragrance opens with sunny citrus notes of Calabrian Bergamot and Sicily Lemon, with green hints of Petit Grain from Paraguay and bright hints of Neroli from Morocco.
The top of the fragrance is highlighted by aromatic notes of Lavender and Estragon and spicy notes of Pink Pepper.
Into the heart blooms a superb Indian Jasmin enveloped by the preciosity of Incense and Mate’ essences.
An amazing beautiful manly scent. Especially for those who love Thierry Mugler Cologne, Armani Pour Homme, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Christian Dior Eau Sauvage. Even if you like the more ‘spicy’ fragrances like me, it is a ‘must have’ for the relaxing days. You can’t go wrong with this one! And for some of you…. hide it for your girlfriend or wife…
