French maison Lancôme was founded in 1935 by Armand Petitejean, a former Coty employee. The company’s name was inspired by ruins of a castle, Le Château de Lancosme and the maison’s rose symbol was inspired by the roses that surround it. Lancôme orginated as a perfume company, launched that year five new womens fragrances in time for the 1935 World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium: Bocages, Conquete, Kypre, Tendre Nuit and Tropiques. In 1964 Lancôme joined the L’Oréal famiy, after which many of of their classic best loved fragrances were created, including Climat (1967), Magic Noir (1978) and Trésor (1990).
Now Lancôme celebrates its eternal perfume Trésor. Created by perfume genius Sophia Grojsman it is appreciated by women around the world for 20 years.
