The high jewellery handbags

Fashion designers aren’t the only ones to unveil their most exclusive creations: English high jewellery house Asprey released limited-edition handbags embellished with precious jewels.

For those who consider their handbag as prized a possession as their fine jewels, no ordinary off-the-runway sac will suffice. For no matter how much the likes of Chanel, Fendi and Yves Saint Laurant elevate their prices in order to distinguish themselves from more affordable designer lines (Michael Kors or Marc Jacobs for example), there remains a hardcore handbag fan-base for whom no four-figure sum is enough to deter them from securing whichever bag their Hollywood heroine is currently carrying. And as they’re an investment purchase which will last beyond a season or two, luxury handbags remain relatively commonplace among the masses.

So what’s a bag lady to do in order to secure a tote that no-one else is toting? Going vintage is one option. With a vast array of colours, shapes and sizes manufactured in limited-edition runs, vintage Hermès  bags include some of the rarest on the market, and can command price tags of up to $95.000 as a result!!

Alternatively, one could look to the brand new but no less exclusive ranges from heritage brands such as Asprey, whose Private Collection last year comprises just 12 one of a kind crocodile handbags. Like a fusion of bag and jewellery, the pieces are finished with 18-carat rose, silver or yellow-gold hardware and embellished with precious stones such as tanzanite, sapphire, garnet, cognac, and pink and yellow diamonds. Created in collaboration with Katie Hillier, celebrated handbag designer, creative director of Marc by Marc Jacobs and founder of the Hillier luxury jewellery line, the handmade bags are created in signature Asprey styles: the Morgan, the 1781 and the 167, with each one containing a crocodile zip purse, a crocodile-trimmed sterling silver mirror and plaque engraved with its unique number.

Like the jewellery houses’ most exclusive collections, these handbags are available to view and purchase by invitation only. Echoing the jewels they jostle with, each one is presented in a velvet-lined, calf leather case complete with a customised kid suede pillow to maintain the handbag’s shape when not in use. Bags to cart around packed lunches and gym kits these are not.

Morgan celebrates centenary with Aero SuperSports

In 2009, the Morgan Motor Company celebrates 100 years of uninterrupted automobile production. The British company has remained in one family ownership since founder HFS Morgan made his first car in 1909. As part of the centenary celebrations, Morgan is announcing a truly special model.

Designed and engineered in house, the Morgan Aero SuperSports is a lightweight aluminium sports car with a luxurious specification. The interior features a comfortable combination of polished hardwoods, hand stitched leather and electronic technology to create a driving environment that is efficient, ergonomic and sumptuous.

In spite of all this opulence the overall weight of the car is still minimal so the car is responsive to driver inputs and economical to run. The unique way Morgan can achieve this is down to our use of aircraft style superformed aluminium outer panels and the skills of our craftsmen to hand finish the assembly of each car.

This technology debuted in the 100 AeroMax coupes built by the factory in 2008 and 2009. Such was demand for this model, that Morgan have taken the decision to produce the Morgan Aero SuperSports.

The Morgan Aero SuperSports is a luxury flamboyant sports car that stays true to Morgan’s philosophy of lightweight minimalist simplicity. It’s a celebration of our love of cars and the romance of travel, and is a fitting model to announce during Morgan’s Centenary year.

Charles Morgan, grandson of the founder

The limited-edition Aero SuperSport uses two aluminum removable roof panels. These can effectively turn the car into a coupé or, when left alone, bring fresh air and the aromas of the seasons to the driving experience without undue wind disturbance to spoil the journey. The panels can be easily stored in the trunk.

The car of course benefits from the lightweight aluminium Aero chassis which is adhesively bonded for class leading rigidity. Exceeding global crash protection standards, this is also the platform used by the Morgan Aero Eight GT3 currently competing successfully in the 2009 International FIA GT3 Championship.

This chassis combined with the aluminium 4.8 litre BMW V8 engine and a choice of 6 speed automatic or manual gearboxes offers an unrivalled driving experience. No other automatic car offers such dynamic power transmission.

Signed by Matthew Humphries and designed for production by the experienced Morgan Design team, the new Aero SuperSports will enter production in early 2010.

A deposit of 25,000 is required to guarantee delivery of one of these exciting new models. It is expected to cost about 127,000 including VAT. Take into account a delivery time of six to twelve months.

The Morgan Aero SuperSports will make its first public appearance at the Concours Villa d’Este on Lake Como in Italy. Come into the beautiful world of Morgan.
