Festive polish at your fingertips

You don’t have to step away from the classic red, but this year gold and silver shades are also vèry suitable to celebrate in.

The season’s penchant for ‘precious’ varnishes has appeared everywhere from Dior and Sally Hansen, to MAC and OPI, Bobbi Brown and Essie, Mavala and Burberry. There’s a shade to suite any skin tone, any personal style, and any occassion. We could go on, but for now we’ll just recommend you pay attention to a few further bejewelled tones, and our utter favourites; in the form of bright emerald (‘Emerald’ by Dolce & Gabbana), a dark cherry with golden pollen-like particles (‘995 Minuit’ by Dior).

Those who prefer to channel a demure palette should investigate the pearly pink polish in ‘Le Charm’ by Marc Jacobs, and perhaps browse through our defined polish edit, should you require any more direction with your festive digits:

Introducing YSL’s New Watercolor Nail Polishes

YSL La Laque Couture Splash Tints.jpg

With summer fast approaching, life is about to get simpler: A slice of watermelon becomes the best dessert; you can throw on a dress and sandals and a hat and stroll to your destination; beauty regimens get lighter (good-bye foundation, hello tinted moisturizer with SPF) and brighter. And, though we don’t always think of it, there’s often a newfound ease to our nail strategies.

Take YSL’s limited-edition La Laque Couture Splash Collection varnishes – which are a bit like watercolors for your fingertips that leave the faintest tint behind. Think of each shade like a quick coat of pretty, translucent lacquer, instead of a full-on nail situation, to go along with that lower-maintenance frame of mind. Brush on a layer of the company’s red (Rouge Wet), magenta (Fuchsia Rain), pink (Rose Splash), or tangerine (Orange Drop), let it air-dry—and be done.

Dior releases Renovation Vernis colour palette

Christian Dior release its latest selection of nail colours under the Renovation Vernis umbrella, in keeping with its Autumn/Winter collection.

Following on from a stellar Autumn/Winter collection showing in Paris last month, Raf Simons’ all-new Dior radiates a tailored, masculine flair with slices of refreshing feminine colour shades. And with a new beauty creative director on board in the shape of ex-Chanel guru Peter Philips – its future looks only set to get brighter and brighter, as proven by the recent launch of Restoration Vernis – a selection of new colours and vibrant shades like those spotted on the Dior runways, with impeccable hold and a high-tech brush for easy application in a single stroke…

The colours are reminiscent – almost identically so – of the series of looks on the label’s AW14 runway, with one rich slate shade even referenced as ‘Palais Royal 403’:
