Beyond her talent and radiant beauty, the French Maison was drawn to the captivating personality of Australian actress and producer Margot Robbie as the face of the Chanel Gabrielle Chanel Essence scent. The perfume is the first flanker of the new Chanel chapter, the fragrance Gabrielle from 2017.

Created by perfumer Olivier Polge in cooperation with the Chanel Laboratory of Fragrance Creation and Development, this new olfactory interpretation of Gabrielle, Chanel reveals a trail that is more voluptuous and opulent, solar and enveloping. Composed around four white flowers revered by Chanel, such as jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom and ylang-ylang, the Essence gives a majesticrole to Grasse tuberose.

French Maison Chanel launches Les Eaux De Chanel, a new line of three Eaux de Toilettes that will be sold exclusively at Chanel boutiques and the Chanel website starting June 2018. The collection created by perfumer Oliver Polge is named after travel routes and the ties between Gabrielle Chanel and certain cities during her career, offering ‘a sense of freshness that is as emotional as the memory of a journey’.

Inspired by three destinations beloved by Gabrielle Chanel, Les Eaux De Chanel start a new chapter in the history of Chanel fragrances. A sensation of freshness. A journey in every spray.

In 1915, Gabrielle Chanel discovered the city of Biarritz, which delighted her with its at the same time sporty and sophisticated atmosphere and where she opened the first couture house across from the casino. The fragrance contains sparkling fruity notes of Sicilian tangerine and lily of the valley.

Chanel Paris – Venice is a fresh oriental fragrance inspired by one of the favorite cities of Gabriele Chanel – Venice. In 1920, this city meant love at first sight to her and a fresh start after the death of Boy Capel. The Baroque and Byzantine art works of Venice became an inspiration for her style. Paris – Venise as a perfume represents the border between the East and West, the contrasts of light and dark tones, as well as freshness and sensuality.

Chanel-Les-Eaux-de-Chanel

The Les Eaux De Chanel fragrances come in simple packaging with a luxurious feel and lightweight glass flacons of a more rounded shape compared to Les Exclusifs.

Using lighter-than-usual glass, the bottle is made for you to travel with ease and it is housed inside a corrugated cardboard packaging that evokes the rippling of the seawater as it recedes from the beach and leaves its mark in the sand. The matte surface of the cardboard has densified the black ink used for each inscription, presenting an even more delicate texture of the Chanel jacket.

Equipped with a unique pump, the bottle diffuses micro-droplets of fragrance for a longer time than an ordinary spray. The pump offers an effect of a soft and gentle cloud, thus heightening the soothing, comforting sensations upon application.

From 1st June 2018 onwards, the Les Eaux De Chanel fragrance collection is available at Chanel Boutiques and Chanel Fragrance & Beauty Boutiques worldwide. Each scent will be available as a 125 ml Eau de Toilette.

The Nose: Pascal Gaurin

Pascal Gaurin Nose

Pascal Gaurin was born circa 1970 in France. This French Perfumer works for IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) as Senior Perfumer for the Fine Fragrances division (Click photo to enlarge).

Pascal had no objective reasons to become a perfumer, but chose it thanks to his gift. His fascination with scents was so great that as a child, he literally explored the world with his nose, causing his mother to wonder if he was afraid of being poisoned.

Pascal studied and graduated at ISIPCA in Versailles and a year after that he began to work in IFF, first in Hong Kong, where he enriched not only his olfactory palette, but also gained a deep understanding of the art, customs and olfactory preferences of people in Asia. Then, in 1997, Pascal was offered the chance to work in IFF, New York, the city of his dreams. The city where everything happens, and where all smells come together.

Most inspired by very dense essences, Pascal Gaurin is fond of resins, deep woods and anything that can express extreme sensuality. His taste for darkness probably originates from his grandparents’ home in Creuse, France. ‘The forests are very dark there, it always feels like it’s night time, you can feel the vapors of humus, mushrooms, leaves and bark. . . I love frontal materials, those you need to tame like sculptor does stone, by keeping the volume but making it flow’. This is where he gets his affinity for cistus, patchouli, Cashmeran and vanilla, ingredients he qualifies as erotic.”

IFF

Other passions of Pascal, which help him in his work, are music and film. The palette of fragrances created by Pascal Gaurin is wide indeed:

The Noses

We all have a nose.  But some ‘noses’ are very special indeed: that’s industry-speak for perfumer. In reality, being a ‘nose’ is a challenging job that takes up to seven years of study – and (mostly) qualifications in Chemistry…

Francis Kurkdjian Noses GIF

I’m always fascinated by noses.  And by the ‘Creative Directors’ and ‘evaluators’ who work in this field, too: almost ‘go-betweens’ between brands and fashion designers, and those noses, a little-known, but most important role.

These men and (increasingly) women, have the talent and skills to whisk us through time and space – bringing back memories of people and places we’ve known and loved.  Through their artistry, we can feel more romantic, more powerful, more beautiful, more creative…

I believe their talents should be recognised and celebrated – just as composers, artists and (more recently) chefs are acknowledged for their gifts, and the enormous pleasure they bring us.  Until lately, almost all perfumers worked behind the scenes, anonymously.  Now, noses are emerging from their laboratories, starting to talk about their creations, and what goes into them….
