The noses: Pierre Guillaume

Born in Clermont, Pierre Guillaume was a young 25-year-old chemist when he composed his first fragrance, COZÉ 02. This ‘Spicy Tobacco’ accord, inspired by the contents of a precious cigar case owned by his father, received critical acclaim from the fragrance blogosphere, which brought it to the attention of professional buyers all around the world.

Perfume Love for Everyone!

After New York Times perfume critic Chandler Burr praised ‘the young French chemist who concocted the coolest new European fragrances’, marked the commercial debut of the Collection Parfumerie Generale by Pierre Guillaume.

In 2010, the perfumer founded Pierre Guillaume Diffusion and set up a production facility comprising a composition studio, a cellar for raw materials and a packaging line solely dedicated to manufacturing the fragrances conceived by Pierre Guillaume. A second facility was inaugurated in 2015 to handle the company’s logistics.

Pierre Guillaume enjoys complete artistic and financial freedom to create his perfumes collection’s in his own studios and workshops, under the brand Pierre Guillaume Paris. Sixteen years later, 93 beautiful fragrances have been released in the Pierre Guillaume perfume collection.

Pierre Guillaume Mecanique du Desir

French perfumer Pierre Guillaume fills up its Black Collection with one more unisex fragrance Mecanique du Desir, which has been inspired by Guillame’s love of classic cars, and is an ode to ‘dirty engine grease’. It marks the end of Guillaume’s ‘green period’.

As a classic car collector, my father taught me the beauty of vintage engines as a teenager, while I watched him restore his Austin Healeys, Jaguars and Mercedes-Benz. We spent long winter Sundays in his shop, sinking our hands into the entrails of his sculptures on wheels. The smell of dirty engine grease has always both attracted and repelled me. Though it was associated with happy moments in my life, this « engine sweat », with its pungent smells of tar, petrol and oil, was also disturbing.

Many years later, as I was reading Jacques Lacarrière’s book Ce bel et vivace aujourd’hui, I finally understood the hidden poetry of this ‘Black Mucus’ and decided use it as a theme for my work.

My dirty engine grease will have the warmth of amber and animalic musks, tinged with the strange blackness of a guaiac wood and violet leaf accord. The sulfurous notes of cassis bud mixed with aldehydes will trace metallic outlines, while mandarin essential oil will add the gleam of chrome

Mécanique du Désir features top notes of aldehydes, mandarin and cassis, for its sulphuric notes; violet leaf and guaiac wood make up the heart of the fragrance; and amber and animalic musks feature in the base notes.

Pierre Guillaume said about the Black Collection: ‘A Collection of Eau de Parfums with architecture evoking olfactory photographs, presented in our emblem bottle, injected with black ceramic.

Pierre Guillaume Mecanique du Desir is available as 50 and 100ml. Come into the worls of Pierre Guillaume.

Pierre Guillaume Paris 5.1 Suede Osmanthe

Fascinated by smells and perfumes, from an early age, Pierre Guillaume grew up in a family of chemists and collected from childhood essential oils and fragrant materials, a prelude to what would become, years later, his true perfumer organ. He is a young chemist who is only 25 years old when he tries to reproduce the smell of his father’s cigar cellar.

This Tabac-Epicé agreement called ’02 Cozé’ built on the famous Epicene-Gamma base, (a mixture of chilli, clove and nutmeg),was quickly spotted by the Critics who popularized it in the perfume blogosphere and among professional buyers around the world in the early 2000s.

In 2010, the company Pierre Guillaume Diffusion was created and acquired in-house a production tool including a composition studio, a raw materials cellar and a packaging line entirely dedicated to the manufacture of perfumes designed by Pierre Guillaume. A second workshop was inaugurated in 2015 to support the company’s growth.

Pierre Guillaume creates and manufactures its perfumes in total creative and financial freedom in its own workshops, under the Maison that bears its name, which are distributed in a network of nearly 330 outlets in 25 countries. And now the perfumer created a new beautiful fragrance for man and women: 5.1 Suede Osmanthe.

Top notes: aldehydes, orange blossom absolute, apricot
Heart notes: leather notes of Suederal, black tea notes, osmanthus
Base notes: Moroccan cedar wood, cashmeran, honey sweet musk, myrrh

Osmanthus is a most bewitching flower, its elegant petals often scenting the rice fields of China with their potently smoky, fruity fragrance. In Suede Osmanthe, the delicate flower’s seductive contrasts are deconstructed and magnified to gorgeous effect. A precious suede, a thin and delicate skin, infused with apricot and black tea notes, olfactive illusion of an osmanthus, conspicuous by its absence.

Pierre Guillaume Paris 5.1 Suede Osmanthe is available as 100ml Eau de Parfum at selected stores worldwide. Come into the beautiful world of Pierre Guillaume.

Parfumerie Generale Grand Siecle Intense 7.1 by Pierre Guillaume

Pierre Guillaume, the master perfumer behind the diverse Parfumerie Générale line of fragrances, had revisited three of the scents in the line and reinterpreted their themes to create very different perfumes in his Signature Series. The fourth perfume to be thus re-interpreted is 2005 Cologne Grand Siecle, which homage to a cologne that a perfumer might have created for Louis XIV known as the Sun KIng.

Top: Bergamot, Bitter Lemon Leaves
Heart: Mint, Cypress absolute, Hay cutting, Tobacco
Base: Patchouli, Vetiver, Oak, Honey foam

PG 7.1 Grand Siecle Intense is a Bigarde Vetiver, it takes the bitter hesperidic accord of the original and reinterprets its bracing freshness in a Eau de Parfum concentration of 22 percent. In the top notes, the essence of bitter orange and lemon leaves dominate, boosted with cypress and mint for added strength. Tobacco and new mown hay are at the heart of the fragrance with a woody base of patchouli and vetiver tinged with honey and oakmoss.

PG 7 Grand Siecle 2005 is a 100 percent natural and 99 percent organic fragrance. I find this very interesting that Pierre was creating natural fragrances in 2005.

Parfumerie Generale Grand Siecle Intense 7.1 by Pierre Guillaume would be available April 26, 2014 at Parfumerie Generale as 30ml, 50ml and 100 ml Eau de Parfum at $85, $125 and $175 respectively
