Nick Boulle to Contend in Prestigious 60th Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona with Hardpoint

No. 99 Porsche 911 GT3 R

Nick Boulle of de Boulle, an independent jewelry salon in Dallas and Houston, will compete in the historic 60th Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona January 29-30. Boulle joins Hardpoint with a new driver line up including team principal, Rob Ferriol, alongside co-drivers Katherine Legge and Stefan Wilson in the No. 99 GridRival/GNARLY Jerky/de Boulle Diamond and Jewelry Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Since its inaugural running in 1966, the Rolex 24 has taken place on the Daytona International Speedway’s 3.56-mile combined road course, which consists of the tri-oval as well as the infield road course. As the jewel in the crown of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the historic race marks the start of the 2022 season, which features competition in five classes: the headlining Daytona Prototype International (DPi), Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2), Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP2), and the new GTD PRO class. This year, a full entry list of 60 cars, including 25 entries coming from the prototype ranks and 35 from the GT paddock will compete.

I’m really looking forward to racing in this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona. I’ve been fortunate to run at Daytona several times now and I think it’s one of the most challenging races mentally. There are more difficult tracks out there, but at Daytona, there are so few places to rest as a driver.

Nick Boulle

Boulle brings years of experience on the world’s greatest endurance racecourses including Le Mans, Spa-Francorchamps and Daytona. This will be the sixth time Boulle has competed in this race. His greatest notoriety may be when he became the first certified Rolex retailer to win the Rolex 24 At Daytona in the LMPC class with Performance Tech Motorsports in 2017. In addition, Boulle has previously secured several podium placements. This is the second time Boulle has raced with Wilson and the first with Ferriol and Legge. The team will compete in the GT Daytona (GTD) class.

Nick Boulle

“We have a strong team and a superior car,” said Boulle. “I’ve been racing the Porsche 911 GT3 R for years, and it is meant to rise to all challenges on the track”.

“Nick and I are cut from the same cloth,” said Ferriol. “Focus, determination, and perseverance will help us in fighting for that podium finish”.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona will take the green flag on Saturday, January 29 at 1:40 pm EST. The race will be broadcast on a mixture of NBC broadcast and streaming properties.

A week before the main event, a 100-minute qualifying race known as the Motul Pole Award 100 will set the grid for the main 24-hour race that starts on January 29th. The annual Roar Before the 24 takes place January 21-23.

Steve McQueen’s 1964 Rolex Submariner 5513 is going under the hammer

While not the most expensive Rolex to ever come up for auction, this 1964 Submariner 5513 has an unrivaled pedigree. The watch belonged to the legendary actor Steve McQueen.

When it comes to style icons, Steve McQueen is an example for many men. The actor was known for having a very strong preference for his style and that – regardless of the situation – could always be described as ‘cool’. Logically, the best man was soon nicknamed ‘The King of Cool’.

Unfortunately, the actor was not allowed to live a long life, he became only 50 years old due to illness. Yet his legacy lives on in his stylish appearance and the fact that there are several objects linked to him. Like for example this great beautiful vintage Rolex Submariner.

After wearing the watch for a long time himself, McQueen gave it as a gift to Loren Janes – a close friend of his and also a stuntman. The back of the watch still bears the following engraving: ‘To Loren, the best damn stuntman in the world. Steve’. This engraving is the only one of its kind; McQueen’s name has never appeared on any other watch. A special detail that makes the watch so cool.

In addition, the watch has the beloved features of a typical vintage Rolex, such as the ‘faded’ bezel. The watch has also received a new fitting restoration completed by Rolex. This happened after the watch was nearly destroyed by a freak fire in 2016.

The watch will be auctioned on October 25 by Philips in New York. The minimum amount for this special accessory is $300,000. For more information, come into the beautiful world Phillips.

Colette taps Mad Paris for a ‘Who Cares’ edition of the Rolex Milgauss

Famous Parisian boutique colette has teamed up with Mad Paris, the firm that specializes in the customization of luxury watches, to create a limited edition of Rolex Milgauss timepiece. Dubbed ‘Who Cares’, the stainless steel Rolex has a white dial with handwritten text in Colette’s famous royal blue color.

Colette is following up  Snoopy-featured Datejust from Bamford Watch Department with yet another collaborative Rolex, this time tapping Mad Paris for a whimsical take on the Milgauss.

The famous Rolex crown has also been changed to the same color. The text “Who cares I’m already late” is written on the dial. The numbers have shifted across the plane as if they have fallen off their positions. The number hand is also shown in the same blue color, with two kinks in the hand.

The Rolex Milgauss is a true classic, the watch was introduced in 1956. It borrowed its name from the Latin mille, which means one-thousand, and gauss, the unit of a magnetic field. The timepiece was designed to meet the demands of the scientific community and is capable of withstanding magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. The major innovation at the heart of the Milgauss’ incredible resistance to magnetic interferences is the shield protecting the movement.

The Milgauss is only available in 904L polished stainless steel, an alloy that is extremely resistant to scratches and corrosion. Aside from its resistance to magnetic fields, the Milgauss’ most extraordinary feature is its lightning-bolt second hand, a unique feature in the Rolex lineup that was originally introduced with the 6541 Milgauss model. In a similar way, the second hand of Mad Paris X colette ‘Who Cares’ watch has been replaced by a lightning bolt.

Colette x Mad Paris ‘Who Cares’ is limited to just five individually-numbered pieces and is available for $18,200, but of course, it was immediately sold out. The standard Rolex Milgauss, of which these watches are made, costs about $ 7,000.

Ageless Beauty, Carmen Dell’Orefice

Today is the 85th birthday of Carmen Dell’Orefice (born June 3, 1931), an American model of ironic status and actress, known within the fashion industry for being the world’s oldest working model was on the cover of Vogue by the age of fifteen and has been modeling ever since.

In her own words Carmen says of her spectacular career; “I projected a strong personality for a gray-haired again population – I gave them the permission to be themselves. Then my career was on the high road again, and it did not really stop. Now I consider myself a cover girl. I am 80-years old.”

Springing from Italian and Hungarian ancestry, Carmen’s parents had a tempestuous and unstable relationship characterized by frequent breaks and reconciliations, punctuated with periods of time where Carmen lived in foster homes or with other relatives during her parent’s clashes.

In 1942, Carmen and her mother moved to New York City. At the age of thirteen, while riding a bus to ballet class, she was approached to model by the wife of photographer Herman Landschoff. Her test photos, taken at Jones Beach, were a “flop” according to Carmen. In 1946, her godfather introduced her to Vogue and fifteen-year old Carmen signed a modeling contract for $7.50 an hour. She became a favorite model of photographer Erwin Blumenfeld who shot her first Vogue cover in 1947. She appears in the December 15, 1947 issue of US Vogue as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Cinderella along with model Dorian Leigh, actors Ray Bolger and Jose Ferrer.

Carmen and her mother were poor, and her modeling income was not enough to sustain the family. With no telephone, Vogue had to send runners to their apartment to let Carmen know about modeling jobs. She roller-skated to assignments to save on bus fares. Carmen was so malnourished that famed fashion photographers Horst P. Horst and Cecil Beaton had to pin back dresses and stuff the curves with tissue.

Carmen and her mother were accomplished seamstresses and made extra money making clothes. One of their customers was Dorian Leigh. Carmen later became best friends with Dorian’s younger sister, model Suzy Parker. Together they were bridesmaids at Dorian’s second wedding to Roger Mehle in 1948.

In 1947, Carmen’s rate was raised to $10–$25 per hour. She appeared on the October 1947 cover of Vogue, at age sixteen, one of the youngest Vogue cover models to grace the magazines cover. Carmen was also on the November 1948 cover of Vogue.

She worked with the most famous fashion photographers of the era including Irving Penn, Gleb Derujinsky, Francesco Scavullo, Norman Parkinson, and Richard Avedon. Carmen was photographed by Melvin Sokolsky for Harper’s Bazaar in 1960. The iconic image titled Carmen Las Meninas has been collected internationally. Sokolsky also photographed her for the classic Vanity Fair lingerie campaign in which Carmen obscures her face with her hand. She was painter Salvador Dalí’s muse.

Despite her early successes, modeling agent Eileen Ford declined to represent her and Vogue lost interest in her. Her thin frame required medical attention: doctors prescribed shots to start puberty, and her new curves brought her work in catalogs modeling lingerie at $300 per hour. She joined the Ford Modelling Agency in 1953. She retired from modeling after her second marriage in 1958.

After her third divorce and in need of funds, Dell’Orefice returned to modeling in 1978. In the late 1980s, Dell’Orefice was engaged to television talk-show host David Susskind. He died before they were married. In 1993, a neighbor introduced her to Norman F. Levey, who was Bernard Madoff’s best friend. Levy was her boyfriend for several years. In the 1990s and 2000s, she modeled for Isaac Mizrahi’s clothing line at Target, as well as Cho Cheng and Rolex. Dell’Orefice is featured regularly in their advertising campaigns appearing in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and W

In the 1980s and 1990s, Dell’Orefice lost most of her money in the stock market. She was forced to auction off her famous modeling photographs from the 1940s to the 1980s through Sotheby’s,

In 1994, with what little money she had left, and with money from boyfriend Norman Levy, she invested with notorious financial fraud Bernie Madoff. For twelve years, Ruth and Bernie Madoff and Dell’Orefice and Norman Levy were a ‘foursome’, traveling and partying together on lavish yachts. Levy died in 2005, at age 93, and Madoff was the executor of his will. Levy had $244 million in assets at the time of his death, according to Dell’Orefice. Madoff’s fraudulent investment scheme drew on these funds to lure over 13,500 individuals and charities to his Ponzi scheme. She continued to socialize with the Madoffs after Levy’s death.

In December 2008 a 68-year-old friend, who invested her life savings with Madoff, telephoned Dell’Orefice to inform her that she too had been bankrupted by the scheme. Dell’Orefice said, “For the second time in my life, I’ve lost all of my life savings.”

In June 2011, Dell’Orefice celebrated her 80th birthday. On July 19, 2011 she was awarded an honoray doctorate from the University of the Arts London, in recognition of her contribution to the fashion industry. The university sponsored a retrospective exhibition curated by illustrator and long-time friend David Downton, featuring Dell’Orefice’s Vogue covers, career highlights, and photographs from her personal archives.
