At French Maison Dior, art meets fashion for the finest causes. The ‘Dior Designer of Dreams’ exhibition at MOCA, Chengdu, until September 7, 2021, provides an absorbing immersion into how the creative directors who succeeded Monsieur Dior – from Yves Saint Laurent to Maria Grazia Chiuri today – have interpreted the Maison’s heritage and moved it forward in their own highly individual ways.

The scenography by Nathalie Crinière highlights the grace of couture creations inspired by gardens and flowers, formative sources of inspiration for a young Christain Dior that still represent indelible codes of the fashion house he founded. The theme is developed further with a display devoted to ‘Miss Dior’, the iconic perfume “that smells of love” and the exquisitely embroidered dresses named after it.

Another room invites visitors to get an idea of the work undertaken in the ateliers as a soaring display of white toiles – the first step in the realization of any couture garment – illustrates the level of complexity and invention inherent in this incomparably important stage.

A special ‘Dior in China’ display turns the spotlight on the host country’s own bearing on that process, highlighted here with Dior Couture designs by Maria Grazia Chiuri in red, which Monsieur Dior deemed “the color of life”.

The iconic lipsticks of Yves Saint-Laurent Beauté are entering the Beauty Tech era with Perso, a smart at-home device that allows consumers to create their own personalised lipsticks. With this smart device, home consumers can create their very own versions of the iconic YSL’s iconic Velvet Cream Matte Finish lipstick.

Created by the L’Oréal Technology Incubator, the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Sur Mesure powered by Perso uses color cartridge sets from YSL’s velvet cream matte finish lipstick range. You can choose from four color families: reds, nudes, oranges, and pinks. each set comes with three different pods, allowing you to make endless bespoke shades with a single touch. With this innovation, you at home can create thousands of bespoke lipstick shades with a single touch.

The lid of the device functions as a compact luxury case, so you can take your personalised product along with you when you go out. But the innovation doesn’t stop there. Thanks to an app that can be installed on a phone or tablet, you can try on any shade you wish via an AR lipstick filter, and then after finding the desired shade for your look, the YSL Perso device will create that exact colour for you IRL.

Once you’ve designed your shade, the bluetooth-connected device will do its magic and three squirts of creamy color will appear out from the top, which are then mixed together. You simply press to dispense the shade selected and apply with the accompanying brush. The lip colour is dispensed in a perfectly portioned, single dose for an easy and clean application. If you want to take your new lipstick with you for the evening, you remove the lid of the device which doubles as a compact, allowing you to take enough of the product an on-the-go re-touch of the selected shade in sleek YSL packaging. Genius.

The Perso device was unveilied at CES 2021, an annual trade show organised by the Consumer Technology Association. The French Maison have said, “The new product heralds the future of beauty.” At the moment it is available for limited pre-sales in the U.S. market, but will be launched worldwide by September 2021.

Kering Group is playing its part in combating the Covid-19 pandemic in France.

Meanwhile, the French workshops of Kering’s Houses Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent are preparing to manufacture masks while complying with the strictest health protection measures for their staff members, with production getting underway as soon as the manufacturing process and materials have been approved by the relevant authorities.

With a view to providing a lasting response to the current pandemic, Kering has made a financial donation to the French Institut Pasteur to support its research into Covid-19. On March 11 in Italy, Kering and its Houses made donations to the four major foundation hospitals in Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany and Lazio.

More recently, Gucci responded to a call to fashion companies from the Regione Toscana for surgical masks and medical overalls, and could be able to donate 1.100.000 surgical masks and 55.000 medical overalls in the coming weeks, subject to relevant authorizations.

On January 28 in China, Kering and its Houses announced a donation to the Hubei Red Cross Foundation to help fight the spread of the virus.

 

 

 

Yves Saint Laurent have released couture condoms

After dropping a range of branded accessories comprised of balls, tennis rackets, yoga matts, brass dumbells and more, now you can have sex but make it fashion with the help of Yves Saint Laurent’s new line of chic couture condoms.

Announced by Yves Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello via Instagram, the branded condoms will be available exclusively at Saint Laurent’s Parisian concept store, Rive Droite. The condoms will be packaged in six different designs ranging from a black-and-white checkered pattern to leopard prints and gold heart emblems. Each design is then stamped with Saint Laurent’s house logo.

On the heels of a star-studded Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020 show, Yves Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello teased the new campaign on his Instagram. To accompany the release Saint Laurent launched the campaign ‘The Love Affair’, which was shot by famed photographer Juergen Teller. In the image shared by Vaccarello, Polish model Anja Rubik is seen alongside a ‘full frontal’ heavily-inked artist and supermodel David Alexander Flinn, but Instagram appears to have removed it. Truly heart-breaking.

Yves Saint Laurent and Dua Lipa unveil a new fragrance, Libre

French Maison Yves Saint Laurent is launching a new pillar fragrance. Yves Saint Laurent Libre is designed for strong, bold and free women who experiment with their freedom, as stated by the French Maison.

Free. That’s one word that defines Yves Saint Laurent. Always on edge. Experimenting. Breaking boundaries. Turning the tuxedo into provocative women’s evening wear in the sixties. For today’s women, freedom is the ultimate luxury. It’s a state of mind. A way of playing by your own rules.

The idea of freedom, as an important part of the DNA of this fashion house, served as the inspiration for the new concept. The fashion designer himself is seen as revolutionary by dressing women in suits and safari jackets and transparent wide-fitting blouses, and he was surrounded by women who fought for their freedom and position.

Created by perfumers Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm, the composition is developed to contain fougere elements. The duo represents two sides of the same coin, reversing traditionally masculine and feminine accords to create Libre. A reinvention of the floral perfume, it combines lavender essence from France with the sensuality of Moroccan orange blossom, for a unique floral fusion complemented by a daring note of musk accord.

Top Notes: tangerine oil, lavender oil, blackcurrant, petitgrain
Heart notes: jasmine, orange blossom, lavender oil
Base notes: cedarwood oil, ambergris, musk, vanilla extract

A gender-bending riff on fougère, the traditionally masculine fragrance category that is heavy on herbaceous lavender and earthy oakmoss. Thanks to an infusion of hyperconcentrated Moroccan orange blossom, and a proprietary note exclusive to Yves Saint Laurent called – wait for it – Diva Lavender, which isolates the freshest elements of the aromatic purple flower, any overt muskiness is effectively tempered.

The bottle was designed by Suzanne Dalton, who reinterpreted the Yves Saint Laurent logo for Libre. Here, the familiar ‘YSL’ Cassandra logo is flipped to its side, giving the bottle an unusual yet alluring shape. The flacon is a couture statement, it reflects the same gender-bending duality of the scent and also references the sleek tailoring of an Yves Saint Laurent suit.

Intrepid opposites are outstandingly attractive – the bottle design defends this ethos.
