Ares has teamed up with HPS

Luxury Italian coachbuilder Ares has teamed up with HPS, creators of the world’s lightest e-bike propulsion system to produce a stunning ultra-lightweight e-bike. The two companies have come together to co-create the most unique e-bike in the world.

Ares and HPS have worked together for two years carrying out countless tests in the laboratory and covering many thousands of kilometers on the road, using the experience of former professional cyclists to fine-tune the dynamic qualities of this racing style e-bike.

Ares managing the design of the frame and the finishes; HPS providing its expertise on the mechanical and engineering side. The result is a high-tech carbon fiber bike that doesn’t currently exist on the market: the Ares Super Leggera by HPS is a top-of-the-range e-bike weighing just 9 kg, a world first.

The Ares Super Leggera by HPS is a bike assisted by a revolutionary electric motor made without compromise, the result of an exclusive project made with the latest Formula 1 and aerospace technology. The components: motor, battery and electronic control unit are so compact and lightweight, they integrate perfectly into the carbon frame, are not seen and above all are not felt when pedaling with the power turned off.

The balanced weight distribution was achieved by housing these components close to the bottom bracket area with a low center of gravity to give the bike a sporting ride characteristic. When you activate the electric motor system you have a significant 200 watt ‘invisible’ assistance, which does not alter the dynamics and therefore the pleasure of pedaling, which remains similar to a top-of-the-range racing bike, even with the engine off.

The result of this first joint venture between ARES and HPS, is a limited series of 24 bikes. It was decided to make them in a beautiful iconic retro style, with handmade leather parts and round tube carbon fiber frame along with the color of bikes from the 60’s-70’s to combine technology with charm and beauty.

Future customers can be involved in the creative process of their bike build, from the conception phase to the delivery of the finished product for personalised one-off creations. They will be able to work with Ares/HPS on sizing, colours, styles and special requests.

Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment design Applies Its Signature to VanMoof’s S3 e-Bike

Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design and the Dutch, Amsterdam based, e-bike pioneer VanMoof might seem worlds apart, but the two have more in common than you’d first think. Fujiwara, who’s often cited as the godfather of streetwear, echoes the technological and aesthetic leaps and bounds VanMoof has made in the bicycle department, and now its S3 model e-bike has been given the fragment rework.

Much like Fujiwara, the e-bike has seen a growing cultural footprint, moving into traditional spaces and subsequently bringing them into a new era. The two also share a similar aesthetic, one centered around clean and minimal touches that play to the IYKYK audience.

The collaborative e-bike, then, is the perfect marriage. Deep gloss black has been applied all over the frame, with Fragment Design’s signature lightning bolt logo adorning the downtubes alongside two white race stripes. More branding in fragment design’s usual technical form can be found underneath the saddle towards the rear LED light, and a touch of branding from Dover Street Market can be found beneath the saddle and along the downtube, while large block branding on the frame rounds out the design.

Of course, the collaborative e-bike comes packed with all of VanMoof’s latest technology, including Turbo Boost for instant acceleration, automatic electronic four-gear shifting, integrated hydraulic brakes, a keyless Kick Lock, and anti-theft devices.

Fragment Design’s VanMoof S3 collaboration is debuting exclusively at Dover Street Market London on October 13 and will be in-store until October 17. Only six are available and each of them will cost £2,248 GBP (approx. $2,490 USD), and can be secured via a raffle on the DSML website with a launch on October 14.

Ride with Pride: The world’s longest rainbow bike path as a sign of acceptance, equality and safety

Fully being who you are, showing how you feel, and being proud of your true self. That’s what Pride is all about. And that feeling of being able to be completely yourself was the thing that inspired Utrecht student Elias van Mourik (22). He came up with the idea to make the longest rainbow bike path in the world.

Elias found support for his idea within three parties: Hogeschool UtrechtUtrecht University and UMC Utrecht. Together they brought this initiative to life. The result? A 570-meter long rainbow bike path at Utrecht Science Park. “When I go somewhere and see a rainbow flag, that’s when I feel like I can be myself,” Elias explains. “The world can sometimes be a scary place, so we might as well paint it in beautiful colors to make it less scary”.

The world can sometimes be a scary place, so we might as well paint it in beautiful colors to make it less scary.

Elias van Mourik

The location of the cycle path is of course also important. The three institutions that participated in this initiative want to show that everyone – students and teachers – is welcome to be who they are”, says Elias. “As a student on this campus, where thousands of people attend, I know how difficult it can be to be 100% yourself. With this statement, I want to show that everyone can be free and proud”.

What Elias hopes to achieve with this initiative? “I hope that this symbol inspires others and it starts a culture change for more diversity and inclusion”. At VanMoof, we fully support this idea. Our Team Lead Recruitment Christian Tran is part of VanMoof’s internal Pride Group. He thinks it’s important to raise more awareness around difficult situations that the LGBTQ+ community go through. “Elias’s initiative inspires not only our generation, but all generations that have faced discrimination. This also indicates that we are entering a new future. A future of acceptance”.

These colors symbolize the acceptance of people from the LGBTQ+ community, but I rather see it as the acceptance of everyone.

Elias van Mourik

People should feel like they belong, no matter who you are or who you love, and that’s our top priority. Pride Amsterdam offers the perfect opportunity to pay extra attention to this. As a company, we have therefore organized a Pride Ride, in collaboration with Pride Sports. We cycle along iconic LGBTQ+ locations throughout Amsterdam on our e-bikes. “During this ride, we want to educate our employees and tell them what happened at each location”, says Christian.

Are you ready for a ride on the longest rainbow path ever? The cycle path starts at Padualaan 97, near the colored building of the Hogeschool Utrecht. Enjoy your ride!

And with a bit of luck, you will not only see a rainbow on the ground but also in the sky. Just like them while shooting this video. Come into the beautiful worlds of Elias van Mourik, and vanMoof.

Vintage Electric develops limited edition e-bike with surf legend Jeff Clark

Vintage Electric is offering a Jeff Clark e-bike in partnership with Clark, the founder of The Titans of Maverick Surf Contest. This electric bicycle combines vintage design with cutting-edge technology. Only 20 of the bikes will be produced.

Electric bicycles have become so well established that it is impossible to imagine today’s street scene without them. The electric bicycle no longer has a dusty image, but is increasingly seen as a hip style item. Vintage Electric knows this and responds well to it. The American company combines state-of-the-art technology with design aspects from the past.

Surfers have long been associated with their vehicles such as the Woody wagon or Volkswagen bus. Now Jeff Clark’s Signature model steps into that spotlight

Scott Brown, CEO Vintage Electric

The Signature Cruz is one of the last creations of the American company and is produced in an edition of only 20 pieces. The company enlisted the help of surf legend Jeff Clark to create this bike. He helped create this very stylish bike with clear aspects of vintage bikes and beach cruisers.

The bike houses a 702-Watt Lithium battery that makes it possible to cover more than 55 kilometers on a single charge. The top speed of the bike is just under 60 km/h in race mode. The bike features Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, combined with a regenerative function to return power to the battery.

The saddle, handles and even parts of the frame are covered with Brooks premium leather. The wheels are provided with a Kevlar layer to prevent punctures. Clark’s influence is particularly evident in its practicality.

It has a detachable surf rack wrapped in Brooks leather. A custom rear rack is fitted with removable Blackburn cases. The hand-finished and laser-etched wooden ‘tank’ bears Jeff Clark-inspired graphics and his signature. It also has integrated front and rear LED lights and a Spurcycle bell.

In short, the bike is perfectly suited for the surf freak. However, we cannot deny that it is also a very nice accessory for it. Surfing or not, this bike looks very good.

If you’re interested, you’ll have to poke around in your pocket. This two-wheeler should cost about €4800. If you say it quickly, it’s not much… Especially when you consider that only 20 copies will be released worldwide.

All gold that shines: House of Solid Gold Fat Bike

A two-wheeler that is made by the exclusive House of Solid Gold, a luxury company founded and developed by designer Hugh Power. Dubbed ‘The Beverly Hills Edition’, the manufacturer will produce just 13 of these mountain bikes dressed in 24-karat pure gold.

We Dutch are crazy about cycling. We are spoon-fed and if laziness and weather didn’t play tricks on us, we’d do practically everything by bicycle. Cycling is the kind of physical exertion that makes every Dutch person a Dutch person. Tourists often refer to our little country as ‘the country where everyone cycles’. Not entirely without reason, of course. That’s why we went looking for the ultimate two-wheeler for cycling in the Netherlands.

Cycling is not just an activity. It’s about relaxing/exercising and doing all this with a very great sense of style. To help you with that, we have this fabulous mountain bike for you. It’s not just any mountain bike, of course – this one is crafted from 24-carat gold and finished with sapphires and alligator leather. So it is the most luxurious bike you can imagine.

This extreme mountain bike was designed in collaboration with athlete Dan Bull, the same motorcyclist who founded ‘Iditabike’, the insanely extreme winter race through Alaska. According to the makers, this exclusive bike takes about 750 hours to be made by hand and covered in pure 24-karat gold.

Dubbed ‘The Beverly Hills Edition’, this is the ultimate show-stealing mountain bike. It comes on a set of wheels that are a lot sturdier than we are used to and otherwise the bike looks fairly simplistic. Each of the 13 units to be built will be completely custom built to the wishes and needs of the buyers.

Each bicycle is completely provided with a gold layer of 24 carat yellow gold that is attached to the frame by means of electroplating. Even the necklace has undergone the same treatment! – how do you lubricate it?

In addition, the bike comes with a chocolate brown alligator leather saddle, a golden water bottle covered with chocolate brown galuchat (shagreen leather) and a badge of ‘The House of Solid Gold’ consisting of 600 hand-set black diamonds and 500 gold sapphires.

To ensure exclusivity, each bike will be numbered, have the artist’s signature engraved on the frame, dated and numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

In addition to the bike’s technical specs, we need to tell you one more thing. It may seem a bit crazy to pay the same amount as a brand new McLaren P1 would cost just to buy a gold plated bike. But know this: most of it goes to charities.

Is it a bike or a piece of art? It is definitely one of the most luxurious bikes our eye has ever seen. This is also allowed, because if you want to be the owner of this golden two-wheeler, you will have to pay no less than $500,000. Converted that comes down to about €422,000 – a nice bag of money.

Our advice is not to just put this bike down anywhere. Come into the beautiful world of The House of Solid Gold.
